The instructions state you do not have to get them wet. I recommend you soak them before installation! There are several reasons, but consider that when you wrap the pipes wet it will shrink when it dries making the fit even tighter. You should wrap as tight as you can. Secondly, these are fiberglass and soaking them first helps reduce the amount of lost glass fibers that have a tendency to find any exposed skin!!They reduced the heat dramatically on my 2009 Vulcan Voyager - a bike known for the exhaust heat. This was enough to wrap the header and pipes up to the mufflers with several feet left over (1" overlap).I also recommend using stainless worm-gear hose clamps (the kind found on most radiator hoses) - at least at the ends. They hold much better. Of course, my clamps are hidden under the heat covers so they may not be as aesthetically pleasing if you run without covers.Recommend!
