I bought this book about a year before I took a trip to England and of course visited Henley-on-Thames. This book is AMAZING! The photos are from before George owned the house. The maps of the grounds and various garden areas are very helpful. When I went to Henley-on-Thames, I walked AROUND Friar Park (except for the very back where the streets don't connect). I knew the outline of the land, the roads, etcetera. The gate George used to drive his car into was open and I snapped some pictures from that vantage using a zoom and without trespassing. (Found out later that Olivia, Dhani and who knows who else were there at the time!) Had it not been for this book, I would not have known exactly where to go other than the front gate that is pictured all over the internet. Also I had downloaded a street map of Henley and chose a hotel that was within walking distance to Friar Park so I could capture some pictures under various lighting conditions. Honestly, if you're a George fan and love Friar Park, you'll love this book!!!

Well put together and informative
The information on this phenomenal country home plus all the photos makes this a great book. I wanted to see what George Harrison did to the property.

A wealth of info on the history of Friar Park
Information on Friar Park and Frank Crisp is scarce but this book brings together a wealth of history through copies of old photos, postcards and maps. I'm hopeful that more information is forthcoming, especially regarding the interior of the structures. It would also be interesting to see a large clear copy of the "Friar Park Plan of Ye Gardens" and any other info that was contained in the Visitor's Guide from a century ago. A great book for fans of Frank Crisp, beautiful gardens, turn of the century Gothic architecture and history but with a large dose of humor and quirkiness.

Disappointed with the images in this book.
I just got the book. Flipping through it, it seems the majority of the images are renderings, not photographs. There are vintage postcards and there are a few color images which look like photos taken with personal pocket cameras of old. Most of the images are not in color and are of the style shown on the front cover. The book is fine if you want to read about the history and layout. I was hoping for more modern actual color photos of the interior and grounds so I am disappointed in that regard.

This book was slightly disappointing to me because I wanted to know more about the quirky features of the house that make it unique. Most of the pictures and text have to do without the outside of the house and most of them are from the early years of the 20th century. It is still a very interesting book but it just wasn't really what I wanted. In particular, I would like to have seen more of the interior and more photos of the friars that give the house its name.
