I am fanatical about food safety, so I wanted to test how cold it got. I filled the ice compartment and put a refrigerator thermometer inside. It only got down to 60 degrees and then quickly began rising. So I then also added ice in the bottom and I happened to have a stainless steel plate that fit perfectly. When I did that, the temperature was able to get down to 47 degrees and stay there a while before rising again. Correct refrigerator temperature is 37-42, and food can safely stay at room temp no more than 2 hours, so this allowed me to keep the sushi out for three hours. Overall, I liked it, especially the lid which keeps the bugs out. If the weather had been very hot, it might not have worked as well.
