Basically, I parked along a curb that never gets sunlight. Recent storms and sub-freezing weather, with vehicular movement caused an ice berm to develop. So my sorry butt comes along in an evening and parks the car there. A quick test on whether I would be able to move this come morning? FAIL. The car was wedged, sort off, within an ice jam. (Easy to pull INTO it, of course...). A layer of my usual ice melt did little to nothing.I got up extra early to see if I could possibly get this car out of this ice jam. I completely forgot I had the Pure Original in the basement, since last spring, never used. I found it as I was replenishing an empty bucket from a 50-lb bag of my usual salt.I know this sounds like a review thats planted by the company - I swear its not. I am only so gleeful to tell you that I used the blue pellets this morning - maybe 1/3 of a bucket (and I probably didnt need to use that much) and I was out of the ice buildup as if it were nothing. It was dark so I dont know if the ice turned to slush, completely melted (it is currently 25-deg F). But I am here at work on time, and didnt have to run to catch a bus. Whew....About another person's problem opening it - take a utility knife and just carefully (it could slip and you could nick yourself easily if you arent careful because the container is rather small and slippery) slice downward, back and forth in small motions within each of the aperatures. My container had 4 small aperatures/square openings along the rim. In dark light, and if your vision isnt great, you may not even see these openings in the rim. After slicing each one, the lid will come off rather easily - caution when you open it to prevent spillage.Cost - another person mentioned that the same chemical compound was available for much cheaper. That may be, and I will look into that. Yes, this is expensive, but for now, in lieu of testing a less expensive, similar brand, this is a FIVE STAR review.I do not know if this is harmful to the overall environment (water sources, aquatic life, etc.).

Calcium chloride works very well to melt snow and ice quickly---not only does it lower the freezing point of water, but, unlike some other salts, dissolving it in water is actually exothermic. The pellets were a good size and convenient to spread, but the lid was difficult to remove (especially with gloves on).

Great for drive way and door area

The product itself works fine; my complaint is what you get for the money. The bucket of ice melt I received was about the size of a large coffee can. I expected it to be at least 2 or 3 times that size for $32- A fair price for what I got would be $5-8.00 The contents were barely enough to do my front steps.***Update*** Seller gave me a full refund for this item. Made me very happy. Thank you.

It’s 12° out and I sprinkled, not even a generous amount down, and it worked great!! This was about 30 minutes after I sprinkled the salt and it was completely cleared. Definitely will be buying more before we run out.

This rock salt worked great leaving nothing behind. After putting down within a short time all the slippery ice was gone. We were all very pleased. I definitely recommend.

Do not waste your money on this! $30 for a tiny tiny tub of this terrible ice melt. Wasn’t even enough to cover my driveway and did not melt one area of ice when I spread it around. I wish I could return it but I used it all thinking it would eventually start melting the ice. Aside from the tiny amount of product for the large amount of money, the main reason for such a bad review is I paid for an ice melt that does not melt ice. Do not waste your money.
