Solid construction, works well
I'm glad I ordered this rake. It's much wider than some of the other brand name ash rakes. I have one of the Vision Grills ceramic kamados sold at Costco. It fits in the lower vent easily and also comes in handy for poking the embers and lifting grates. The metal is thick and the end is welded on solidly. I'm really glad I didn't pay $20 for one of the other tools. This one is everything I need it to be. At $10 including shipping, it's a good deal.

Good ash rake at a great price
Not much you can really say about an Ash rake. I bought it to use with my Primo Oval because it is much cheaper than the one specifically made for it. It fits into the opening and pulls out the ash without any issue. For what it is meant to do it is plenty sturdy and should last a long time. The other reviewers saying it is too short or not sturdy enough to move around hot coals are correct but that is not what this is made for. It is only made to remove the cooled ash from a ceramic grill and for that purpose it works as well as any other ash rake I have used in the past.

Perfect for cleaning under a grate with 2 inch legs
This small Bayou Classic ash rake is the perfect tool to use with a Liberty Foundry cast iron fireplace grate. The grate is 22 inches wide, 12 inches deep and stands up on 2 inch legs. The spacing between the slots is three quarters of an inch wide and is the perfect size for burning small, medium or large coal in. Coal produces a very fine powdery ash that is hard to clean out from under the bottom of the grate. The Bayou classic rake is the perfect size to fit under the two inch clearance between the grate and the floor of the fireplace. Even though it has a fairly short handle being only 18 inches in length, I can get to the back of the space under the grate and in between the legs of on the sides of the grate and clean out all the built up ash that is there I find that a smaller tool is better for trying to clean under a grate that is so close to the floor and the Bayou Classic rake is perfect for the job if you have one like this. Yes, I would prefer a longer handle, but this rake still does the job and I'm very, very pleased with it. It makes it easy to pull the ash onto the fireplace shovel and empty the ash into a bucket to dispose of. It would be a vast improvement if the handle was parallel with the head of the rake instead of perpendicular to it. The other job that this rake handles extremely well is pulling or raking coal from the sides of the grate onto the top of the burning coal in the center of the grate. It's a wonderful little tool and I'm sorry to see that there are a number of reviews that don't like it because of it's size. For a coal grate this is a really good and hard to find rake to have, and I would recommend it to anyone that has a smaller and more difficult space to clean.

Way, way short and small to be of any use.
Disappointing in both size and quality. Handle is short, to short the rake or bank the coals in a firebox. Makes a better decoration or kitty litter box cleaner in my opinion! Would not recommend

XL BGE
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband for his XL Big Green Egg. Based on the other reviews I wasn't sure if it was the correct size but I tested it out before I wrapped it and it works perfect. It reaches the back and still had plenty of room. It also seems to be constructed well. I only paid about $9 for this which was significantly cheaper then some of the other ash rakes.

Don't buy unless you want to burn your hands or clothes
This rake states that it is 17" long. Actually the part that fits in the fireplace is 13" long and the handle is 4" long. Since fireplace rakes are used to bring hot coals to the front of the wood stove, one would need to have a rake that at least keeps your hand and clothing out of harms way. If you were to look at your other fireplace tools, you will notice that they are about 27" or longer in length. This is intended to allow one to work with the wood in the fireplace or wood stove and still keep a safe distance. Please be aware that this is a cheap price for a reason. You will notice that the ones that sell for $50 are 28" long. Either buy those or make your own like we did. It was much stronger and longer and cheaper and takes only a short time to do it.

Perfect for a smoker.
Specifically, I have a Weber WSM. When ordering, was at first worried that the rake would be to small. But at 17 inches, was able to get to the coals and stir the ashes. The rake is made out of solid metal and has a nice weight to it. For under $10, cant ask for more.

It's small, but good enough for small wood stove.
This tool is much smaller than the picture depicts. It's about the length of an 18 inch log. And the head is less than 1/2 of the size of an iphone 6/7 screen. The rod is only about 1/4 inch width, about the width of a pencil. But it works and is at a very low price. I use it to distribute coals and push ashes through the grate on a small/medium wood stove. Would not recommend for a larger stove or fireplace-- A gloved hand does get too warm after 20 seconds, since the tool is short.
