Pros Outweigh the Cons For This Size of Silicone Tongs!
I've been using the same set of cheap all-metal stainless kitchen tongs for almost 40 years, one 16" and one 12 inch. But I recently hankered for a set of tongs with more versatile and non-abrasive grip. So, I bought two of the Progressive International Silicone Gripper Tongs:The one sold on this page, which are 12" long Progressive International 12 Inch Silicone Gripper Tongs, Colors may Vary and one that is 16" long Progressive International 16 Inch Silicone Gripper Tongs, Greem Here's my pros and cons of the silicone gripper tongs. When I ordered them, I figured I'd be giving away my old tongs. Though they are a little scratched here and there, the old tongs are still shiny, no sign of rust, and they work fine.Unfortunately, due to the second con listed, I will be hanging onto the tried and true all-stainless tongs.Pros:1. More versatile than all-steel tongs. With their silicone grip ends, these tongs aren't just for working the BBQ or fishing corn cobs out of a pot of boiling water. I've used the 16" tongs, for example, for bringing down a can of food from the top shelf of the pantry.2. The silicone grip ends are solid. That is, it is not a matter of a wider silicone grip hanging off the end of the metal arm. Rather, the silicone rectangle end covers a metal rectangle the same size.3. The arms of the silicone tongs are very strong, made of thicker metal than the all-steel tongs. This makes them a tad heavier, but only a tad; not so much heavier that they bothered me (a 5'5" woman).5. When in closed position, the silicone tongs hold tighter together.Con:1. My 12" all-steel tongs open to a max of 9" (tip to tip). The 12" silicone tongs open to 7 1/2". (For the 16" tongs, though, the silicone tongs opened further than the all-metal tongs.)2. The weakness I noticed on the 16" silicone tongs only, seems to be the hinge. There is more lateral movement on the silicone tongs, a half-inch each way. So far, this has not hindered their performance. The reason I'm not giving away my old tongs is because this lateral movement makes me wonder how long the silicone tongs will last. Granted, I won't need them to last another 40 years! There is a lot to like about Progressive's silicone tongs, still 5 stars. They are ultra handy and I'm glad to have them in my kitchen.Happy Reader

Excellent Tongs with Wide Grip
These are excellent tongs with a wide-grip silicone covered tips.I color code my kitchen. I recently had a baby and a lot of the baby stuff I bought (not on purpose) is green. Like my Boon grass bottle/dish rack, the OXO TOT baby line of cups, bowls, and utensils, etc. All green. I got two of these to use for removing hot items out of my baby bottle steam/sterilizer or out of boiling water if I'm boiling the baby stuff. I also steam heat baby food in a small dedicate pan made into a makeshift double boiler by adding a stainless steel bowl and water inside. So I use the tongs to lift the inner bowl out when the food is hot.The color matches all the other green stuff I have perfectly. There is no mistake that green is for the baby and other colors are for everything else. The silicone tong ends grips are very wide compared to all other tongs I have. They are like curved spatulas and they grip the glass and plastic bottles and varioius baby utensil pieces perfectly. I've never dropped anything. And it's easy on the hands. After doing loads and loads of baby dishes, my hands don't get tired from operating the tongs. They are easy to lock and unlock and I like how the locking lever is silicone covered too because sometimes I have to operated it with my teeth or push it against my arm when my hands are full. And it's nice and soft and padded. I have no compliants about these and would buy more in other colors for other uses in the future.I highly recommend these. I use them for baby stuff but I'm sure they are great for gripping/flipping food as well. if you want a more streamlined/tapered/smaller tong tip, the Mastrad Orka tongs are great, too, and come in a variety of lengths and great colors.

The Perfect Tongs - Pricey, But Well Worth Every Penny!
I have rubber tipped tongs that my mother bought in 1952 to lift up the baby bottles she was sterilizing in a pot of boiling water. I inherited them, and they are perfect to turn over bacon, and anything small that is in a frying pan. After so many years of use, however, the rubber ends are worn away, leaving the metal exposed. If I use them now, they will scratch my Teflon pan. I have been looking for replacement - tongs that have rubber or silicon tips, which I can use to flip over bacon. I have looked for several years, but all I could find were tongs that are metal at the ends. I gave up my search, and then I saw these tongs on Amazon, and this was what I had been searching for. They arrived yesterday, and they are far better than I could have imagined. These are strong and solid, a professional grade piece of equipment! These tongs should last another 60-years, with their heavy silicon tips, that are thin, but hard at the end, just perfect to turn over bacon, etc. There is a pull, at the handle end, that lets you secure the tongs closed, and when you pull it out, the tongs open up. I could not live without these tongs, now that I have them, knowing that I will be able to turn bacon strips over easily, quickly, at the exact time, and without damaging the pan. The silicon end will not melt from the heat of the pan, and they are designed in such a way that the end tapers perfectly from very thick to thin, but the thin part at the end is nonflexible, so that it won’t bend while you use it. These tongs are far better than I had hoped for, or expected, from the picture or the description.

Best tongs I have ever used
These tongs are excellentWhy ?Light weightQuality madeNot too much resistance - some tongs have too tight a spring and I found myself struggling with them. These have just the right amount of tension, Great if you do not have strong handsThey lock closed easily which is great for storagewhy 4 stars and not 5?For me I would prefer th silicone grip area extend further down, closer to the grab part as that is where I naturally grasp tongs. Maybe it's just me???? This may not be an issue for others.

Well made tongs very nice colour
I bought these as longer tongs to complement some mini ones I already have - I needed longer ones for browning meat over a hot pan. These tongs are well made, solid and a nice colour. I like that there is silicone on the handles and the hanging hook. These are kind to non stick pans. They grip well and I'm keeping mine by the stove, they will get lots of use. They are a bit pricey.
