Because of the subject matter (crucifixion, a parent being in danger, etc) more sensitive children may find it scary or too intense. There is no way around the brutality of what Jesus did for us. We have enjoyed it this year with my 7, 9, and 11 year old. For the younger kids, I wouldn't plan to read it straight through in 4 weeks but my 11 year old didnt want to wait for the rest of us and took it upon herself to read it through.
