Good product worth your money
Light weight takes up little space, but is fuel canister dependent, not something you would be lugging around in a backpack. Will it work with "natural fuels" (wood, twigs, etc. - sure but it may get too hot and deform after extended use). USE FUEL CANS with wicks for best results, the open topped cans will not work well and will be a waste of your money, fuel, and time. Good little stove for emergency use to warm up/heat a couple cups of water for a meal/coffee/hot chocolate, etc., will not cook a meal, but will heat water for a dehydrated meal. Good quality, well put together, easy to use. and worth your money.

It boils water...
Yes, you can boil water, unlike other reviewers claim. Use the correct sized cans, and COVER the pot. And use a reasonable amount of water. Typically you would be boiling 8 - 12 oz of water. It does take time, remember that Sterno heat output is "slower" due to small flame size, and your pot is constantly losing heat, so a lid is important. I tested this just to prove a point. On my fireplace mantel, at ambient 75F, I put 20 oz of 70F water in a 3 qt stainless pot with a glass lid. I used a 6.1 oz Sterno Green Outdoor can. Result: It reached 175F at 20 minutes, and was at a full boil after 27 minutes. After it had been boiling for 10 full minutes, I extinguished the flame. Doing the math, I had used a little over 1/4 of the Sterno can; visually it looks about 1/4 used too. Obviously this would be different in colder temperatures, or with wind, or if you started with snow instead of water, etc. Also, you don't need to actually boil water. Boiling is a useful event because you know the approximate temperature without a thermometer, but if your water is 210F, and it's not boiling... who cares. 210 degree water is 210 degree water. This Sterno stove is good quality, with fairly stiff aluminum panels, and steel grates. There is a light oil coating as others mentioned; the stove should be washed in hot soapy water to remove the oil. I would not call this a "backpacking stove" because it is a bit large even when folded, and not on the extreme end of the light-weight scale. But for most other uses, it's great. This is meant to hold the larger cans, like the 7oz or 6.1oz "green" can. The smaller 2oz cans won't do much.

Won’t boil water but handy for warming food.
I bought this because I have used sterno in the past for chafing dishes and a s’mores making kit and it’s easy to use. My daughter and I will be doing some camping with her Girl Scout troop and I opted for this over a pocket rocket because I’m kind of a scaredy cat, haha. Thank goodness I tried it out. It’s pretty sturdy and easy to put together. Like other reviewers said it does seem a bit greasy on the outside. Mine didn’t have any food particles or anything and the packaging was new. I think there’s a coating on the metal that feels like that. I got the green sterno cooking fuel 4 pack on Amazon too. We lit it and used 20 oz. of tap water in our Stanley camping cook pot (also ordered from Amazon). We lit it at 6:10. By 6:47 it was still not to a rolling boil and I’d used over 1/2 a can of sterno so I gave up. It was steaming, there were some tiny bubbles coming up too. But it was not a full boil. I did give it 3 stars because I still think it will still come in handy. For one, if the power goes out we can warm food easily. I will probably not take this camping as we need all the space and the least amount of weight possible. I thought it’d be good because it folds flat and is light but still needing the sterno cans and the cooking pot I think the pocket rocket will be more effective. We will be using a water filter but if you needed to boil water this is not a good choice.

In a world of finicky high tech gadgets and fuel formats that are hard to find, this is as perennial as a paperclip. I've been using these for a half a century and can't count the number of hi-tech stoves this design has outlasted. The gelled alcohol will not spill in your pack and stink up your clothes. And the gel is safe and easy as a firestarter.

It is what it is; a decent cheap stove to use for heating/cooking with gel alcohol fuel or what not. Doesn't fold nicely but for the price no complaints at all, I would buy again; especially since it is not made in PRC.
