Q: can it read small or condensed barcodes?

This scanner can read a wide range of symbologies and sizes. The scan capabilities for the smaller condensed barcodes would depend on the type of symbology and the distance you are trying to scan from.

Q: Can this scanner be connected to a Galaxy S4 with Square?

Only with the proper OTG cable for that phone type. I would suggest looking into a Bluetooth scanner if you are using it with a Galaxy device.
