The magic continues in Disney's classic as Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) helps the Banks family remember the joy of being a child. Together with her friend Jack the lamplighter (Lin-Manuel Miranda), fun is brought back to the streets of London in a celebration that everything is possible...even the impossible. Review: Not Julie Andrews' version. A version of its own! Well done! - I was very skeptical of this movie. How can anyone even attempt to replicate such an iconic movie & Julie Andrews' version of the nanny every child wished for? (Even if some of us didn't know what a nanny was...) The answer is "You don't!" The director instead showed a different nanny, who created her own version of Mary Poppins. Respect was given to the Original Mary Poppins' character with a well written script. There were lines written in that will warm the hearts of fans of the Original. Though this version of Mary Poppins is notably different, she is still the no-nonsense ward with a quick wit, similar wry sense of humor, and after her exaggerated play at reluctance chooses to go on wonderful adventures into the minds of children and has a great time doing so. This film was unexpectedly well done! Spoiler Alert. Read no further if you haven't yet seen the movie... I was very happy to see some of the Original actors playing their Original characters. I had hoped to see Dick Van Dyke, but did not expect to see the old man from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang dancing on top of his desk in his bank! What a great scene that was! The Admiral and his 1st mate firing the canon to mark time... I could go on, but those who have seen the movie and the Original when growing up will know, and verify that this movie is an instant classic! Yes. I know that's a BOLD STATEMENT! It gives me great pleasure to announce that the film did justice to the Original! Review: Leave your preconceived ideas at the door.... - A great expression on film of another version of the Mary Poppins story. However, if you're looking for a continuation of the 1964 classic OR you're looking for 1964 Mary Poppins 2.0, please move along and don't watch this, as you will be disappointed at only 60 seconds into the film. Why are you expecting it to recreate your childhood for you. Please stop. If you have read the Mary Poppins books, you'll know they really aren't that similar to one another. It's the same with Mary Poppins Returns. Here is a new blush or new take on another Mary Poppins adventure. This one isn't set in Edwardian England of 1903, but in London during the Great Depression.....during hard times.....but Mary Poppins still finds a way to lift the spirits. This is a well executed film with good music. I concede many of the songs don't have you skipping out the door singing along. However, the music in "Returns" is very good music, even if a bit more complex and layered than those original, wonderful songs of our childhood. The older generation: Open your minds and your hearts to a new experience. You'll find another good story about growing up, that is entertaining if you allow it in.

what a delight!
Now I must admit that I was extremely skeptical about anyone even APPROACHING Mary Poppins, I mean really, how could they? Mary Poppins, "practically perfect in every way", how could anyone even revisit it? The original was PERFECTION. Well, I was delightfully surprised with this movie! Emily blunt delivered a stellar performance in the role of Mary, and those shoes were not easy to fill! Her mannerisms, accent, the way she carried herself, EVERYTHING was exactly as Julie Andrews did originally. Lin was great, and made me want to watch the original to see if there was any mention of the young sweep under Bert's care. It was great to see Dick Van Dyke as Dawes, but I do so wish he would has reprised his role as Bert and paid a visit to his original character. Angela Lansbury was a lovely addition, but seemed a bit out of place and I wasn't really sure why they pulled her in. I would have much rather seen Julie Andrews have played the role of the balloon woman simply to get her into the film. Colin Firth as the bag guy was a bit much for me, I such a fan of him in the more happy roles. I wish the Bank's parents would have appeared, and any of the others from the first film. But regardless I really did love this film. It surpassed my expectations and I was delighted by it! I definitely recommend giving it a go!

Sweet, silly, sentimental
This film is fine, I suppose, for young children, but that’s not really who it’s for. Rather, this is a nostalgic opportunity for us older folk to remember the original Mary Poppins (which I saw in Alton, Ill’s Grand Theater in 1964). Emily Blunt, while absolutely charming, isn’t Julie Andrews, who owned the role so clearly that it was decades before she could do anything with an R rating. Lin-Manuel Miranda was delightful as a lamplighter, but couldn’t compete for comic joy with Dick Van Dyke, who came out of retirement at the age of 93 for a cameo— in which he danced! So yes, this is a nice juvenile fantasy film, that becomes good in context with the original. See them one after the next.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely magical from start to finish! ✨🎶
Mary Poppins Returns is everything I hoped it would be and more! It perfectly captures the charm and heart of the original while bringing a fresh, modern twist. The music is beautiful and so catchy—I found myself humming the songs long after the movie ended. The visuals are stunning, and the mix of live-action and animation gives it that classic Disney magic we all love. Emily Blunt is absolutely fantastic as Mary Poppins—she brings her own style while still honoring the original character. And Lin-Manuel Miranda adds so much energy and fun to the film! It’s heartwarming, fun, and perfect for all ages. Whether you grew up with the original or are watching for the first time, this movie is such a feel-good experience. Highly recommend for a cozy movie night with family! 💕🍿

I saw this in the theatre when it came out in December 2018 and had to own it on DVD. Emily Blunt is a fantastic Mary Poppins for a new generation. Fantastic production values and choreography and costumes and fantastic songs. What's not to love?

This was a sequel the longest ever awaited I am thinking in the movies by 54 years. The computer generated aspects are superior as we are now more advanced. but the movie lacks the crisp quality of the original and yes, that illustrious musical voice (now silenced) of Julie Andrews. Despite the lesser musicality of the original, this was an entertaining and engaging sequel sufficient to allow a rating of 5 stars. By all accounts, Disney produced a lovely sequel as best as they could indeed. Emily Blunt is admirable.

It was very good. Of course, very rarely does a remake beat the original, but it's very good. The acting was credible and you get scenes that you would be able to identify with the original movie if you saw it. All in all a very good movie. I recommend it for kids of all ages.
