Free & Clear Hair Styling Gel, Fragrance and Gluten Free, For Sensitive Skin, Unscented, 7 Oz

My hair is a wavy/curly/frizz combo with some straightness on top that frizzes too. They’re loose curls and natural ringlets. This styling gel helps define my curls and eliminates the frizz! I get compliments for my hair looking like I spent hours curling it, when I just used this hair gel and spent a couple minutes getting it wet and scrunching! A little goes such a long way, all you need is a pea-sized amount (I have medium length hair). So the value for money is amazing, because this will last me sooo long! If I use more than a pea-sized amount (which isn’t necessary), then it’s easy to get a greasy look and crunchy curls, of course. It’s super easy to put in my hair, and for my hair type I have to always have my hair wet when applying. Then I just put a small amount of the gel on my hands and rub them together, then use the “prayer hands” method! It holds well for I’d say all day, but if I apply it in the evening, it’s not so pretty the next morning, so I just style in the mornings. I don’t recommend using it twice without washing your hair in between, because at least for my hair it becomes crunchy and more tangled when trying to wash out. For my hair type I can’t brush or comb it all all except for after using conditioner (I use vanicream conditioner too and it’s great!), and if I use this hair gel twice before washing, it’s more tangled and I lose more hair. Other than that, it washes out just fine! Also it has no smell at all, and I’m very sensitive to smells, so this is wonderful!! My skin is also sensitive and neither my hands nor my scalp have problems with it!

I bought this because other hair products make my scalp itch because of the chemicals. This is a great product that holds the hair all day. I love it for my curly hair. Keeps it from frizzing. It is also not greasy, and doesn't build up on your hair. I only wash my hair 2 x a week because it works best that way. If I put the gel in one day, I can re-wet it the next morning and it reactivates the product and my hair looks great.

I have extremely sensitive skin and over the last couple of years I had to quit using hair products, hair color and make-up which was pretty hard for me as former hairdresser and colorist. Vanicream makes Free & Clear Gel and I also use Vanicream Medicated Shampoo, Conditioner, Moisturizing Cream, Sunscreen Sport Broad Spectrum SPF 35 and Moisturizing Ointment, but was hesitant to use the gel because I have naturally almost black hair and my experience with gel and dark hair is that once the gel dries it tends to turn into white flakes. So, I was utilizing the Moisturizing Cream as a sort of hair cream to keep my hair in place and it worked great when my hair was fairly short (gotta get creative!). I am growing it out a bit. It's about 6 inches long now, so I thought I'd go ahead and try the hair gel. I was pleased to find that the hair gel did not leave any flakes in my hair. I use it on towel dried hair - and sometimes diffuse my hair, then follow up with a pea size amount of the Moisturizing Cream on the ends. If I need some lift, I will use a little bit more of the gel on my fingertips at the roots. If I do not diffuse my hair, I will add the gel to towel dried hair and twist my hair back and pin it. The next day, I'll have a twist and can simply add more of the gel to my dry hair and my hair will stay perfectly with the gel. Again, the gel leaves no white flakes and it has no smell or scent. I can usually keep the style for two or three days between shampoos. It's a great product and I highly recommend it. I will have to try the hairspray next. Everyone's allergies are different, so just because a product is safe for most people with allergies, it does not mean every single person will be able to use it, so just be aware - do a patch test first if you're not sure. I have tried dozens of products over the last thirty-some years and at least for now, this product line has been SUPER and the ONLY skin care and hair care line that I can use. This former hair product, hair color and make-up addict is now hair color-free, make-up free but no longer, hair-product free!

I have purchased this same brand in other forms as well, including shampoo, conditioner, face cream, and hairspray. I bought it because it does not have perfume or dyes and is free from harmful chemicals. there are very few hair/skin products available in this category. I appreciate it that Vanicream produces a variety of affordable products without all the crap that most manufacturers add to theirs. I wish that it had better hold. as soon as i comb my fingers through my hair after it dries, the 'hold' of the gel is lost. But I have had the same trouble with other hair gels I've tried as well, so I can't fault it for that since I haven't found a single hair gel that keeps its hold after it is combed. Overall it's a good product for those with sensitive skin or who do not want to add dyes and chemicals to their skin/hair.

Its contribution to my war against dermatitis has been life-affirming: I'm rash-free, off steroid creams, and looking the best I can. I had to start using unscented products due to severe scalp itching, scaling, and bleeding. My dermatologist said it was my nice smelling 'essential oil' Aveda hair products. Vanicare gel doesn't look to hot...it is sort of like clear Vasoline, but it fortunately doesn't make my hair all flat and oily like I was afraid it would. It coats my hair and I use another product that is unscented that is curl enhancing and controlling with this and it makes my hair look very good. I notice for some reason that using these products my coarse, curly hair gets really 'big' like it turns into an expanded version of my regular hair. It is so much hair as I wear it long below my shoulders so it is a big overwhelming! Ha ha! In any case, my hair like my scalp is on the drier side and I am so happy this ISN'T sticky or heavy or making my hair flat and limp like I was afraid it would. It does a great job and doesn't leave a residue even though it looks unappealing and a little gross when I am squeezing it out of the container as it is this clear jel that looks thick and that it would be very sticky. It is a very good product. I am a new user of unscented products and was sad to have to stop using Aveda essential oil products but they were really exacerbating my scalp issues and this doesn't. Don't put this ON your scalp though if you have sensitive skin...spread it first throughout your palms and start with the bottom of your hair and work your way up and stop about 1/2 to 1 inch from your scalp. i still have 'wild' hair' close to my scalp but I carefully apply just a little one hair at a time for those 'out of control' small bits of new hair that spring up near my scalp to 'tame' them (for a while at least!)

Vanicream Hair Styling Gel is perfect for my needs. I just scrunch it into my freshly washed damp hair and leave it to dry naturally. The product has not flaked after it has dried. My hair feels softer and looks much better than it used to when I used a different leave-in hair product. This product seems to tame my frizz issues, although time will tell what happens when the humidity increases during the summer months. I have have adverse reactions to many other products, but have not had any problems with this one. Yay! That's a huge added bonus for me. I will definitely repurchase this item.
