You also have to factor in the room temperature as well as it seems to also affect the temperature under the panel. Thanks!** A: I ordered 16 chicks (Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red sized) and they all fit. As they get older and bigger they only get under here to sleep with one or two chicks hanging underneath during the day. In this photo the heater was very short, and the thermometer was underneath. At first I couldn’t get it past 86 degrees but the thermometers sensor is on the back, so I flipped it so it was facing the heat plate and the temp was perfect. So if you have an issue where the temp is too low, maybe try that. I love the adjustable legs. My previous producers pride only had 3 height settings so this is huge for me! And the plastic cover will be a game changer for cleaning I’m sure. It is also not too hot to the touch so I’m not worried about my chicks being burned. It is a great size but definitely will not fit 30+ older chicks, I’d say more like 15.
