Rocks. - I have the Windows 8.1.whatever-it-is-today and this print reader is awesome. It is NOT a swipe-reader. You put your finger on it and you hold still for a split second. I believe I have not had a misread yet since I bought it several weeks ago. Print-readers (including the iPhone) tend to freak out if you have washed your hands in the past few minutes or if you hands are extremely dried out. Thing looks good on my desk and a very impressive addition to my setup. Only thing I'm disappointed is that it comes with a trial of Roboform (which is addictive). The prog fills in passwords and screennames based on your fingerprint. You can trick out your passwords to the craziest non-sense EVER and your fingerprint will fill it in. BUT the Roboform trial is just that... and expiring trial. :-/ What to do what to do. Bottom line: this thing is awesome. Rock solid metal construction with an accurate reader. Extremely accurate. I got the same errors on all 3 computers: Your device is having trouble recognizing you. Make sure your sensor is clean. Sorry, something went wrong. Close Windows Hello, and try going through the setup again. Move your finger slightly lower. Move your finger slightly higher. Move your finger slightly to the left. Identical on all computers and operating systems. I am going to need over 100 of these for computer protection and if it is this hard to install on one computer I don't have the time to waste on 100+ computers. If so, how?** A: I have gotten it to work, but currently it has an issue if my system is resuming from a sleep state. Go through the install procedure to set up the drivers. You should be able to get it working with LastPass or one of the other password managers. Once that is working, to set it up to work with Win 10, bring up the Start menu. I believe Settings will be third from the bottom, choose "Settings". When the settings window comes up, type "fingerprint" in the search box in the upper right. Then choose the "Set up fingerprint sign-in" item. This will bring up the accounts page, choose the "Sign-in Options" item if not already selected. To set up a fingerprint for WIndows log-in, first choose the item to setup a pin. (Yeah... I know you don't care about setting up a pin... but unless you do, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom doesn't give you the option of setting up fingerprint login.) After that, then you should be able to set up fingerprint log in, below where you setup the pin. **Q: Will it work with a chromebook?** A: Don't waste your money, sorry. **Q: Will this read a finger regardless of which way the finger is oriented?** A: The P5100 reader will read your enrolled fingerprints within about 45 degrees of its original enrollment orientation. **Q: Is there an SDK for this reader, or does it only work with proprietary software?** A: I am not sure. Included drivers wouldn't install, couldn't detect "Windows Biometric Framework". However Windows detected and installed the device on insertion (Driver install still no go even after Windows detection, tried web site drivers too). Windows Hello detected the reader and allowed me to enroll finger prints. I will say the detection rate on this sensor is just OK. Took many attempts to enroll a finger (thumb too).
