half a book is better than nothing
Cigar Lover's Compendium is one-half a light weight and amusing read but unfortunately, half of it is a listing of "tobacco shops" in every state in the US. The list isn't worth much as I recognize several of the names from my state as nothing more than head shops and rebellious, anti-establishment cigarette vendors. The list wasn't any value to me in Colorado and of course I don't know what to do with the address of tobacco shops in 49 other states. This half of the book would have been much more useful if it provided reviews and sources for purchasing cigars and accessories online. That's the book someone needs to write. Many of the cigar-related jokes in the first half are funny, even if a few are derived from older jokes that had nothing to do with cigars. The remainder of the first half are numerous entertaining anecdotes about famous cigar smokers and in my opinion this is the best part of the book.So if you're interested in a book that is one-half a list of tobacco stores that frankly, probably was copied from online phone directories, and one-half funny anecdotes and jokes about cigars and what some famous smokers have said about them, I think you will enjoy this book.

A True Disappointment
I own 52 different books about cigars including four rare volumes by Adriano Martinez Riuz and the Min Ron Nee book of Post Revolutionary Havana Cigars. The subject of cigars is a true passion of mine and I thoroughly enjoy all of the books that I own on the subject, with the single exception of this edition. The majority of the "Compendium" (greater than 50% of the book) contains cigar shop listings and most of these listings are simply cigarette "smoke shops". These listings were out of date at the time of publication and the Internet is the best guide if you are truly looking for cigar shops. If you are looking for free association writing about cigars as a comprehensive reference from multiple literary sources, you would do better to get a copy of Guillermo Cabrera Infante's "Holy Smoke". The true worth of this book can be condensed down to about 16 pages. This edition is NOT the "Compendium" that the title falsely claims to be. Avoid this one and look elsewhere.

ok
book is ok. very short and not much information about cigars. mostly full of quotes and jokes. i would not suggest this for someone who wants information but good for coffee table books.

Good easy read, some good info with a little humor.
Just like the title stated some good information about cigars with a touch of humor. Not a large book but I'm not complaining I paid under $4 for it. Anything more than that and I may have felt cheated. Not bad but nothing I would buy over again.

Not what I expected
The book content is light and humorous to some degree. I'm a beginner at cigars and I didn't learn much from the book. Most of it is common knowledge from my perspective.
