That came on New Year's Day 2010, when the new decade and a new era in party dance music was forever ushered in, with the release of her debut full-length "Animal." I first was exposed to Ke$ha's unique craft when I by chance heard "Tik Tok" on the radio for the first time in the car at one point. My jaw literally dropped at what I had just witnessed. It was so refreshing, original, inventive and exciting. She actually spearheaded a whole new genre here, of party-till-you-puke themed, nonstop electro dance-pop music. Just as the similarly-aged Alanis Morissette stormed onto the scene in the mid-'90s, you simply did not have anything like this in music before 2009, making Ke$ha a true breakout phenomenon. I will never understand why "Animal" was rightfully a worldwide multi-platinum smash in 2010, and yet from so many of the reviews you read of it here on desertcart, you'd think it was merely a mediocre release and that its success was undeserved. Nothing could be further from the truth. I just previewed the entire 46-minute disc for this review and didn't count one weak song or moment of filler on it. So many people seem to slam this talented young woman because her lyrics by first appearance seem to endorse a nonstop carefree, drunken, promiscuous, all-day, all-night party lifestyle. Well, to counter this, I think all you need do is look to the bio provided here on desertcart and hear it from Ke$ha herself: "I want my music to be fun, unapologetic, rowdy, quirky, humorous, and interesting, but with substance behind it. I'm an emotional person underneath all my fronting." ...Ke$ha is not just a caricature, she IS a real person, a true talent and a true artist. I think this CD is so entertaining and FUN to listen to from beginning to end. Songs like "Blind" and the title track are showcases for mastermind producer Dr. Luke's ingenious electronic soundscapes and beats. And make no bones about it, the all-time classic "Tik Tok" has forever carved its place a slot amid many an all-night rave or underground dance party's DJ setlist. To close, Ke$ha's almost overnight rise to fame was genuinely exciting and the breakout success story of 2009/10. Not since earlier Avril Lavigne have I felt this passionately about a new female artist's music. No matter what the naysayers who like to slander her have to say, Ke$ha is a worldwide pop music powerhouse that should enjoy a long and fruitful career. Highly recommended!! Review: Ke$ha is my drug - Animal has to be one of my favorites of the year. I can't stop listening to it. One thing I admire is when an artist releases singles which are a good representation of an album in its entirety. If you don't like clubby up-tempo dance music, then why are you buying Kesha's CD. That is what I expected and that is what Kesha gave me. "Your Love is my drug" was by far my favorite single. It made me actually buy the album. It was soo catchy to my ears. My other favorites are: 1.Blind/Steven/Dancing with tears in my eyes/Animal 2.Backstabber 3.Party At A Rich Dude's House 4.Blah Blah Blah I knew that there were going to be tracks with a much deeper side to them like: "Dancing with tears in my eyes" and "Hungover", which to me provides enough depth for a party album. I have this on in my car and almost all of my friends are now kasha fans, and my mom really likes the song "Stephen". Songs that just piss me off are: "Boots and Boys" and "Take it off" Otherwise, this album is good and I can't wait to get my hands on "Cannibal".

Ushered in the '10s with a resounding bang

Fun party music (is what I think about this cd)
Late to the Kesha party but really enjoyed this early work. Note that 35 years ago I would have enjoyed the song Dinasour a lot more than I do currently at my age. She's on tour in 2025 and I did get tickets and went to the show. The reason I purchased this CD. She was great live. If you are a fan or just enjoy a fun party concert, find her on tour and go.

Those who hate infectious electro pop, pop rock and dance need not apply
Ke$ha will probably get slammed by the onslaught of web crawlers who love to bash anything that isn't `art rock' or `smart music,' a definite plague that has resulted from the dawn of the internet age. We're talking those who scathingly refer to pop as throwaway and forgettable, despite the fact that this is the very music that has proven time and again that it gets stuck in your head and has huge staying and comeback power. Not sure why they even bother wasting their precious holier-than-everyone time attacking music they'd never listen to--and I can't imagine what would have been posted about the music I loved as a kid had the internet existed. Those who don't like dance and pop music shouldn't--you know--bother talking about it so much. If you don't like a certain music genre, then why would those who DO like that genre really CARE what you think? Don't quite get that. Having said that, let's get into the adolescent pop dance perfection that is the Ke$ha CD. Forget the hit singles "Blah Blah Blah" and "Tik Tok"--those who love party pop and dance music will go wild for this album. Imagine if Avril Lavigne recorded a dance rock record ripe with electronics and you pretty much have Ke$ha, who covers everything from puking at parties to ragging on `old' men who look at her and think they're going to get some. Straight up rocking dance tracks include "Your Love Is My Drug," "Take It Off," the adrenaline rush "Kiss and Tell," the electro punk "Party at a Rich Dude's House," the more moody dance tracks "Blind" and "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes" (no, not a cover of the Ultravox new wave classic), "Boots & Boys," and "Animal." "Stephen" sort of takes the classic upbeat girl group pop sound of the 60s and gives it a modern twist. "Hungover" and "Back Stabber" are the closest thing you get to actual Avril Lavigne pop rock. And then there's the quirky, almost Tom Tom Clubish "Dinosaur." But it doesn't end there. The UK edition of this CD has two must-have bonus tracks. "V.I.P". is a sleazy sexy electro dance rocker with attitude and atmosphere. "Dirty Picture Part 2" is a surprisingly hardcore electro house track, which is actually by Taio Cruz featuring Ke$ha.

super Album, konnte das ganze Album beim ersten mal anhören komplett durchhören. Hier gibt es absolut nichts zu meckern wenn man die bisherigen Songs wie "tiktok", "blah-blah-blah" oder "your love is my drug" mag. TIPP: Kauft die UK Version die hat 1 Song mehr... ... 16. Animal is a fantastic debut album with very few let-downs! I first noticed Ke$ha after hearing her live at T4 Stars Of 2009 and was very impressed! She then released 'Tik Tok' and 'Blah Blah Blah' which are great and shot to success. 1. Your Love Is My Drug - 9/10, a great chorus. Perfect for dancing to! 2. Tik Tok - 9.5/10, an incredible song. One of the highlights! 3. Take It Off - 9.5/10, great fun with a poppy chorus. It will get you dancing! 4. Kiss N Tell - 10/10, best song on the album. Terrific verses mixed with a bit of Avril Lavigne style singing. 5. Stephen - 9/10, the first and best ballad. This is not Ke$ha's style so she does extremely well to change. 6. Blah Blah Blah - 9.5/10, even though 3OH!3 weren't needed, this is a fun and meaningless song with a catchy chorus. Perfect! 7. Hungover - 8/10, another ballad. Slightly weaker than 'Stephen' however it still carries a great tune! 8. Party At A Rich Dude's House - 9/10, a thorough party-starting tune based on an experience at Paris Hilton's house. 9. Backstabber - 10/10, A stand-out and somewhat emotional song! 10. Blind - 7.5/10, a good use of auto-tune but lacks any sort of change in pitch. 11. Dinosaur - 8.5/10, a use of funny lyrics and all-out party material makes this song another good one. 12. Dancing With Tears In My Eyes - 6.5/10, a slight let-down with no real flow but still one worth listening to. 13. Boots & Boys - 9/10, a fantastic pre-chorus which sounds familiar... 14. Animal - 9/10, she really does let out her inner animal in this song! 15. VIP - 8.5/10, a really fun song: where it lacks tune change, it makes up for in pure electro pop. 16. Dirty Picture - 8/10, nothing outstanding but Taio Cruz backs Ke$ha up well. So, overall, this album is fantastic and thoroughly deserved to be number one in America. Furthermore, the two bonus tracks ('VIP' and 'Dirty Picture') added a very nice touch! Put this on at a party and people will be dancing 'til midnight! Very impressive!
