Great Value G90...Must Buy!
Everybody knows that the Xiegu G90 is a great radio. The truth is this is second one time I bought one. The first time I returned it (got a Yaseu FT710 instead) because I could not get it to work for me as first rig for HF (having got back into the hobby late last year). I think the problem was actually my poor set-up of the antenna (an End Fed Long Wire for 10-80m). I decided to go back to the G90 as I wanted something relatively inexpensive to use for portable use (Parks On The Air etc.). I tested it at home first with my DX Commander antenna to good effect but it came into it's own activating a couple of parks running of a LiPO4 battery 30Ah and an inverted V dipole for 40m. Immediately, I am working Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Ireland aswell as inter-G on just 20W. The tuning is great with an internal antenna tuner if needed and the sound quality is fantastic.

Good, but don't buy "used like new"
This is a crackin' little HF rig. Have had multiple 10,000km QSO's from England to Brazil. The first G90 I got was from from Amazon Warehouse and advertised as "used, like new" but was actually an old model with a destroyed power-amp but unused accessories and a serial number way different to the one on the box. Someone obviously killed it, bought a new one and returned the dead one - not sure if it was Radioddity or Amazon that shipped it out again without checking it. Amazon made it right, though, and I'm very happy with the radio. The G90 is quite versatile. The front panel can be removed and extended away from the actual radio with a supplied cable, great for getting space between RF stages and your PC for data modes. There are ports for a key (traditional or paddles), an external waterfall display (or PC running SDR software), and CAT control. A DIN port on the back exposes PTT (output only), and audio in/out specificaly for data modes with their own gain and volume settings. Firmware can be updated by the user, too, using a cable that comes with the radio. The default display shows you all the usual mode and frequency information plus a waterfall which is great for finding active stations, as well as an S-meter and dBm value, and on transmit you get to see power, modulation and SWR as well as your outgoing waterfall. The built in antenna tuning tools ... there's a SWR sweep option, which draws a little graph of F vs SWR, and the famous antenna tuner/matching unit. I've not had it take more than half a second to match up my antennas but apparently it will try quite hard to match anything - just look on youtube for "G90 antenna". Based on my experience of getting a dead rig the first time I will add - Although it's called an automatic antenna tuner, you have to trigger the tuning! The rig remembers the settings for each frequency it sees, but doesn't tune unless you tell it to. I haven't done it, but the transmit frequency limits can be removed without breaking the warranty seal. If you're after a first or portable HF rig - this is a good one.

Surprisingly smaller looking in real life but GREAT radio.
Really nice radio. Straight out the box, having seen loads of still and video images on line regarding the g90, it seemed....well, small! However, this faded away into insignificance as the screen is very clear and easy to read. You can connect to laptop via an external sound card and HDSDR which is my next project. Connected up to my vertical whip HF antenna in the garden, I was picking up central, southern Europe easily. I have yet Tx but I have used the antenna analyser and tuner. What a great bit of kit. It brought down an swr of 2.5 to a flat board in about 5 seconds. Fantastic. Transmit power in watts is controlled in 1w steps from 1 to 20. There's a lot of good things said about this radio and now owning it, I would agree. This is my entry level into the HF world and I think I've got a blindingly great bit of kit.

Good all round rig
Dislikes:- None Likes:- size perfect, display clear, controls intuitive, everything is just perfect for the Transceiver it is trying to be and succeeding in every way , the auto tuner is rapid and I swear it could tune wet string. This is a lovely rig the power output is ideal for its usage out in the field on portable batteries or in your vehicle , its not going to kill your battery that quickly. Bonuses are to be found too , like the built in CW reader , this works yes but can be a little hit n miss, it doesn't always read the callsign the same on consecutive passes, but hey it's a freebie, all in all , I'm very pleased with this rig and have treated it to a flight case to keep it pristine while being transported to various locations. Highly recommended to all my fellow hams at my society who are now considering purchases . Well done Xiegu and your furthering development with this Tranceiver. It has all the controls and facilities needed without all the frills . I love it .
