It provides MIDI In & Out sockets for USB MIDI keyboards and controllers which have only a USB B type socket. For example, used with a USB-Solo, it allows the USB-Solo to be used in a standard MIDI setup, just like a Pro-Solo. It has a USB Host port (USB A type socket), a MIDI In and a MIDI Out (both 5 pin DIN). MIDI data received at the MIDI In socket will be sent to the USB device. MIDI data received from the USB device will be sent to the MIDI Out socket. The attached USB MIDI device MUST be 'Class Compliant'. Finally I found the right combinations of search keywords that brought me to this thing. Expensive but it works perfectly!I was able to connect a Roland System-8 to this box using the MIDI DIN connector. and then used the USB connection from the box to the Yamaha P-105. Then from there the notes played on the Roland are played via the Yamaha P-105. It uses USB . Not 5 pin MIDI .( real MIDI is 5 pin din) I got it to work with the Kenton connected to my Yamaha piano but it only plays the piano sound when my horn is MIDI d to my piano . So that is a YDS issue .I previously called the MIDI store and emailed . Person there was most helpful.I am giving it 4 stars because IMHO for this price a micro USB should be included . Now, I have the EWI 4000s . It uses MIDI connectors NOT USB . I can MIDI to both of my keyboards and it works great . BUT the YDS really shines with its looks and sounds . So yes both horns are great . Don't be disparaiged about the YDS 150 . It is a great horn .
