Quality, reasonable cost, delivered on time.
Polaris PB4-60 Booster Pump was purchased to replace our old Polaris Booster Pump that was very noisy, had low pressure and finally gave up after 8 years. New Polaris Booster Pump arrived on time and was a simple install. After installation of the new booster pump I was surprised how quite the new pump was and how well the inpool Polaris unit was working. So far so good, pump quality seems to be a major improvement over the old model and a reasonable value for the cost.

Sucks well
Have had this running for a few months now and it's perfect. Doesn't sound to loud and performance is really good. Yes it's pricy but worth it

Exactly as described
Very happy, was happy to find this on Amazon and was a huge improvement to replace a unit with failing bearings. Easy install and works perfectly.

2nd pump in 2 years, both out of warranty...Very poor customer service.
This is the Second Polaris pump I've had to replace in 2-years; both of which have failed. The first pump was 2-years old and out of warranty... Purchased a new pump in September 2012 after the season, not realizing 12-month warranty from date of purchase (my mistake there). The pump was installed in May 2013, only ran it a few times during the season and was uninstalled in September 2013 where it was stored for the winter. In April 2014, when we opened the pool, found the pump to run only 5-min, get hot, and shuts off. Tried contacting the merchant for assistance, but they cited the 1-year warranty from date of purchase, and couldn't offer assistance. Unfortunately, I guess that's what you can expect from just an Internet reseller. Tried Polaris/Zodiac, they cited 1-year warranty also; this was the most frustrating part. Explained that this was the 2nd pump in 2-years, and that I'm not really happy with the quality of these products. They refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor. Instead, the agent spoke with the supervisor on my behalf. The agent told me the supervisor was the ONLY person in the company I could speak with. The agent was reluctant to provide the supervisors first name, and would not provide their last name or the supervisors last name or any other contact in the company to speak with. I asked if there was a customer service number / department. Tech informed me that "Tech support" and "customer service" were one-and-the-same, and that he's done "All he could do". Asked tech, "Given my history over the last 2-years with the Polaris pumps, why would I purchase another Polaris Replacement?" His response was "I don't expect you would." The pumps and Polaris units are not cheap ($200 for the pump, $600 for the sweeper)... I replaced BOTH at the end of the season in 2012. I don't expect a lifetime warranty on these products, but I do expect that these items should last more then one season. At that price, it would be more cost effective to have the pool serviced weekly through the 20-week pool season. If this is the quality of product and customer service you can expect from Polaris, I would look for other options. At a minimum, I would expect the manufacturer to stand behind the product, and offer either a repair, replacement, or a discount on a replacement product. If you do chose to use the Polaris products, find a reputable local pool supplier that provides better service, and actually cares about their customers. This way, when the product does fail, they may be able to work with you. Kicking myself for not working with my local pool guy and trying to save a few bucks by ordering it online myself...

Familiar Performance: Loud Noisy Pump & Cheapened Build Quality
I purchased this Zodiac PB4-60 Polaris Booster Pump to replace another Polaris branded booster pump that was 14 years old. It served me well and it's hard not to go back with the same brand when you feel you have gotten your monies worth on a product. That said I suppose I had high expectations considering I also just replaced my pool pump and that replacement was much quieter in operation than the pump it replaced although it is a different brand. Since I knew the Polaris booster pump had multiple issues I decided after 14 years I was probably fortunate for it to have lasted as long as it did and I should just replace the pump and motor to be done with it. As good fortune would have it a favorable price cut occurred while I was shopping and I didn't hesitate to purchase. I had however called Zodiac the parent company to Polaris inquiring about this model and another more expensive Zodiac model, the PB4-60Q which claimed it was a quiet pump. From a price standpoint the difference was considerable between the two models but it just didn't seem worth it to opt for a model that only claimed to be more quiet with no other discernible features or traits. How much quieter could it be? It's an electric water pump. Since the CSR at Zodiac had confirmed this model the PB4-60 was what I needed as well as helped me lay the entire thought to rest on quietness when he said the PB4-60Q he thought was being discontinued. Must be a reason why I thought and with that I discovered the price had just dropped on the Zodiac PB4-60 and so it was moments latter the order was complete. The Zodiac PB4-60 Polaris booster pump comes with a fully assembled pump and motor on a footing stand, approximately 4 foot of Polaris branded flexible reinforced hose and 4 threaded quick connect screw in and on compression fittings. Perhaps another foot of the reinforced hose would be helpful. I saved mine for future use as I just replaced my Polaris reinforced hose last year as it was looking brittle but I know for a fact I needed about 5 foot when I installed it so an extra foot or two would be helpful for some. Installation of the PB4-60 is a straight forward uninstall and install After removing the old pump just reconnect the flexible electrical conduit to the motor housing, connect the load wires and ground wire connection, replace the 2 screw electrical access cover and then the bonding wire. The pump side is very easy thanks to the simple screw in connectors and screw on compression fittings for the reinforced hose. I added thread seal tape NOT included that I had on hand to ensure a leak free connection for both the screw in connection to the pump and the screw on compression fitting. Turn the breaker back on for then the moment of truth as I turn the booster pump switch to the on position...WOW THIS PUMP IS LOUD but no leaks and it is working as it should. I suppose I had high expectations believing like the pool pump I had recently replaced the Zodiac PB4-60 Polaris booster pump would have evolved into a much quieter pump. It is as loud as ever but to be fair it's only as loud as the 14 y/o pump it replaced which was always louder than the old pool pump too. While disappointed with the noise level if I get another 14 years with this pump I certainly can't complain about a little more noise as the pool gets cleaned automatically considering the booster is only turned "on" for cleanings only. We normally don't use the pool when the Polaris is cleaning so the noise will be primarily when we aren't around to hear the pump. Now for the reason I subtracted one star from what I believe to be overall a very good product which in part is based on my previous experience with the brand. I subtracted the star in part because of the unrefined noise level of the pump but also in conjunction with something else I noticed. The pump head seems to swell or flex upon start up from the internal water pressure inside the pump head. It appears a slight design change to reduce manufacturing costs has weakened the overall structure of the pump head. I tried to video the expansion flex of the pump head upon start up but it wasn't as visible as it is to the naked eye. I plan to post a video in conjunction with this review to hopefully demonstrate what I am referring to but it may be hard to demonstrate with video. While both the old and new pump appear very similar in design I had never noticed any pump head fluctuation or swell upon start up on the old pump. The only real difference that can be visibly discerned is the new pump loses some bulk of material around the pump head. It is now redesigned with less material in what appears to be a single process cast molded design with only raised structural reinforcement material running in a semi swirl on the outside of the pump head rather than a more bulky casting overall for the pump head. Whether this will have long term consequences affecting the pump head is unknown but obviously less material means less manufacturing cost. I believe the cheapened redesign of the pump head is worth noting considering there is noticeable structural dynamics occurring during start up. Only time will tell if the new Zodiac PB4-60 Polaris booster pump is as good as it's predecessor but for now the performance characteristics of the pump remain unchanged. Although I recommend this pump, I feel an updated pump head design has potentially cheapened the product. The pumps function as a booster of water pressure for your automatic Polaris pressure-side pool cleaner works as intended and I can tell no difference in the performance of the pump from its predecessor. The unrefined noise level it produces is perhaps a petty complaint but nonetheless a complaint. I do believe the Zodiac PB4-60 Polaris booster pump to be a value at its price point and recommend it. Should this pump provides similar reliability to the Polaris PB4 booster pumps it replaces than it is truly a 5 star product.

The product performs so far. Only in place for a few weeks. Most important, the supplier replaced a faulty pump within days. Up and running. Lots of problems getting this pump working. Thanks to Splash and Play for quick and courteous service.
