Lovely quality hay,nice and green to. My guinea pigs adore it.

I’ve been really pleased with the Oxbow Western Timothy Hay — it smells fresh, has long green strands, and my rabbit absolutely loves it. It keeps him busy chewing and supports his digestion well. The only downside is that the bag can be a bit pricey and sometimes has some dust at the bottom, but the overall quality makes it worth it for my bunny’s health.

I bought this timothy hay for my two guinea pigs. I have tried a variety of different hays previously- the £1.50 bag from home bargains, the Pets at Home brand, the highly-rated Excel timothy hay and finally this one, the Oxbow. I would just like to say that this hay is amazing and by far the best of all my previous tests. It has a fresh, lovely smell, the hay is the greenest I have ever seen (by comparison the excel hay is nearly brown!) and my guinea pigs, after a small and fussy adjustment period, now literally jump for joy when they hear the bag rustling. My guinea pigs go through a bag of 1.1kg in around 10-14 days, so for cost effectiveness I've now decided to buy on subscription the 4kg bag! There are criticisms, however. The main two criticisms are: 1. THE PRICE. Ye Gods, I know you get what you pay for, but I'm a student and this amazing hay (which I'm certain is the best for my piggies) is really emptying out my pockets. Somebody should start a petition for a price drop or something. 2. THE BOTTOM OF THE BAG. The last 8th/10th of the bag is always just very fine, very tiny strands of less than 2cms, completely inedible to my guineas. For the price I would like to see the full bag loaded with long strands and nothing but long strands. To summarize, if you love your animals and you want the best hay around for them, Oxbow is easily the best supplier on the market!

I was genuinely at a loss with hay for my two teenage, male guinea pigs (Fudgy with black/white fur and Cookie beige/white). I had tried about 7 types of hay over the last few months including second cut, third cut, USA / UK grown etc. After a a few days of eating normal amounts, they would leave huge quantities. I kept having to throw bags of hay away and trying new varieties as they would near refuse to eat the hay. It was a nightmare, they even started losing weight! I thought if this Oxbow variety of hay/grass doesn't work then it is off to the vets as it was becoming such an issue. The moment I gave it to Fudgy and Cookie they devoured it, in a way they had never done before. It smells wonderful (like tea leaves). I couldn't believe it but, I thought they may stop eating later as they had done previously. However, they just keep eating the hay with no issues! I am having to refill their haystacks about 3 times a day which was unheard of before. Over the moon, as they have put their lost weight back on and are now well over that weight (nearly 700g). They waste hardly any straw every single day. Can't recommend this variety enough. Thank you very much to Oxbow for providing such amazing quality for my 2 picky pigs - I will be ordering this variety for many years to come! I really wanted to like this but sadly neither my piggies nor rabbits did. Good points: The two bags I tried were a lovely green colour and honestly looked very uniform and soft, the smell it did have was fresh. It appeared to be lovely thick quality grass that had been dried. There was no dust or any other flowers, herbs, dandelions, types of grass etc. Bad points: The smell in both packs was very gentle and hard to detect compared to some. My rabbits normally come running when they smell hay they didnt seem to notice this. Whilst uniform and soft the fact it all one type of soft grass meant their was no depth of textures or flavours for them, so they got bored straight away. Also worryingly without the firmer stalks they will not be getting the essential wear their teeth need from the 'heartier' parts of hay. Overall my buns and pigs completely ignored this as food but did sleep on it. But my bunnys generally prefer firmer hay to be fair. If it was cheap I would have brought it for a base, for foraging and bedding for my guinea pigs and rabbits as it was lovely and soft thus acting as a back up rather than their main source of hay but at over £9 per kilo as opposed to £2 at the lower end and c.4-5 for some fantastic quality hays it is insanely overpriced and just not affordable when it will be used as bedding. It might be great for some animals who need a softer more 'subtle' hay but it didnt offer enough scent to entice them offered no flavour or variety and not enough firmer parts for their teeth.

As good as any bought in the pet shop, although more expensive, but then the pet shop had none and this was delivered to the door.

Bun mom of 15+ years. I’ve had many rabbit sin my care, worked at an animal shelter, and a vet. I’ve been using Oxbow for years and they are one of the most trustworthy and quality hay brands for my buns. I now foster rabbits. The first litter I raised grew up on oxbow. Mama just had her last litter (she came to me with one litter born and apparently another on the way) and they will also grow up on Oxbow. I’ve never had an issue with freshness. The hay comes in genuinely dry and dust free with perfectly long strands. I have a spare 13g trashcan with a lid. I just drop a big 90oz bag in there to keep the pets out of the main supply. Smaller bags are closed away too. My rabbits love it so much they prefer to eat straight out of the bag instead of the open boxes or hay feeders I use. Worth the extra few dollars and can usually be found at local farm stores or pet stores in bulk if I can’t get it shipped fast enough.

Hay and water are super important for the bunny to have 100% of the time. This hay is great! Highly recommended.

Ho provato diversi tipi di fieno negli ultimi anni, ma questo è diventato subito il preferito dei miei conigli. Si presenta verde, profumato e ben tagliato, senza polvere e senza residui strani, segno di un prodotto di qualità. Appena lo metto nella fieniera, i miei conigli si fiondano: lo mangiano con gusto e ci si rotolano anche dentro, segno che lo trovano comodo e invitante. Anche dal punto di vista nutrizionale, è perfetto per tenere sotto controllo la loro digestione e l’usura naturale dei denti. L’ho trovato molto più fresco e consistente rispetto ad altri fieni confezionati, e non ha quel classico odore di “secco e vecchio” che spesso scoraggia i conigli.
