As part of a plastic-minimising journey, that I'm sure a lot of you are on, I decided my next change would be dental floss. I looked around and saw bamboo charcoal and thought that looked natural enough, but in the reviews I saw someone that did a burn test (bless you stranger). Turns out it was being falsely advertised as plastic free, and they are sneakily being misleading by referring to the packaging and not the floss itself. I wanted to give the seller the benefit of the doubt so sent them a message asking them to clarify, and they confirmed that it did indeed contain a small amount of plastic to strengthen the floss. At least they fessed up to that, I suppose. So then I found this and I was skeptical having lost some trust in Amazon sellers, but decided to go for it anyway as I couldn't find any incriminating reviews. When it arrived I did the burn test myself, comparing with a video online and was very glad to see it checked out perfectly. No melting, only burning, and a black hollow bead that crumbled into ash. Next was using the floss itself. A lot of reviewers complained about breakage but as you'll notice the vast majority of these are complaining about the vegan floss and not the silk floss. I did experience some breakage, but changed my technique, using different portions of the floss every few swipes to prevent this from happening and it's been working so far. You could even soak the bit you cut off to soften it a bit if you're still having issues. Overall though I'm very impressed by the strength all things considered. I decided I would stock up on some refills, and when these arrived I had some issues which I let the seller know about. They investigated it with the supplier and sent me a free refill pack which was back to the quality I had come to expect. Amazing customer service!

I had originally been looking for Cocofloss because of everything I heard about its deep cleaning efficacy but that brand is very difficult to find outside of the USA. This floss from Bambaw appears to clean quite well instead of just slipping past the teeth, and it appealed to me because it is made of Ahimsa (cruelty-free) silk. It has a nice fresh minty smell. The floss is not too thin, not cutty or cotton-like as I'd worried a natural fibre might have been. In my experience it did not break. I was expecting the container to be less neat like it looks in the images - the most pleasant surprise of all is it is a cute dinky dainty tin. I'd buy again.

Too thick to reliably fit in between teeth and snaps very easily. Some even broke off and took ages to get out of my tooth causing great discomfort

Pretty decent floss, bit chunkier than the plastic stuff you get. The container is good but it would benifit from some form of extra lid or cap

So impressed with this silk floss, I barely write amazon reviews but I had to come back to review this! I spent a long time deciding which plastic-free floss to get and settled on this one after wanting to ensure it was really plastic free and also high quality. I'm shocked by how effective this is. It doesn't taste minty but the floss works just as well as nylon floss (honestly even better than some cheap nylon ones). The metal case is super practical and works great. I've recommended this to friends and will be buying refills when mine runs out! 10/10

Great little eco friendly container, nice minty flavour but sadly far too thick and easy to shred! As a hygienist it is easily the worst floss I’ve ever used, sadly.

Unlike the many reviewers that found it broke easily, that was not my experience after 7 days of experience. Perhaps there is batch to batch variability.
