The best lathering shave soap I have tried
I’ve tried a lot of different brands of shave soap, including MacDuffs, House of Mammoth, Ariana & Evans, Aylesworth, Stirling, Phoenix, and many others. Barrister and Mann earns its reputation one of the best shave soaps and I can’t say any I’ve tried is better. This has been #1-A in my top tier. It ladders up well and is slick, allowing for an excellent shave. It’s a bit pricey, so I’d say Stirling may be a better bang for your buck as the performance of Stirling’s shave soaps is a close second of the soaps I’ve used, but Stirling is not available on Amazon at this time. Cella is a good one for the money as well, but Cella doesn’t smell as good, doesn’t come in the wide variety of scents, and does not offer a matching aftershave. I don’t know how many criteria most people have for shave soaps: B&M offers many fragrances and is the best performing lather I have tried. I bought Leviathan and love the smell, as does my wife. I’m not great at describing fragrances so I will leave that to other reviewers, but it is a complex and unique smell that I really enjoy.

Excellent shave soap! The scent is TWO THUMBS UP!
Excellent shave soap! The scent is TWO THUMBS UP! Some complain they cannot get the hard soaps to lather up quickly or make a thick lather. Hard shave soaps take a little effort, be sure to load up the bristles of the shave brush adequately. One tip is to put about 2 tablespoons of water on top of the soap when you first open it up, let it sit for at least 24 hours. The soap will soak up the water and soften the upper layer of hard soap. Then, repeat after every shave with a 1 tablespoon of water. Then the shave soap will load the shave brush quickly, allowing a good lather to be whipped up. This soap has BEEF TALLOW, the absolute best ingredient for making a top-quality shave soap.

Fragrance, glide, moisture retention and post shave feel : 100%
One of the best shaving experiences. Superb moisture retention, excellent razor glide , rich, foamy! And leaves a smooth after shave feel without dryness. And the icing: superb lingering fragrance. My top shaving soap.

Delicate smell, fantastic lather and feel
I am relatively new to shaving with a DE razor. I wanted a fresh-smelling yet classic barbershop scent, and I saw reviews of this soap. There are lots of layers with this soap: citrus, spices, and barbershop powdery notes. It keeps changing while you shave, and it lingers a little bit after you have shaven. I plan to add the aftershave and the balm since they would combine well with my other soaps without clashing. The texture of the lather is excellent, and it builds very quickly. It leaves a comfortable feel after shaving. It is a high-quality product, and it feels deliciously luxurious. I will try other scents by B&M in the future.

Great performance, fairly strong spice scent
The Barrister's Spice, like other Barrister and Mann soaps, easily produces a great lather. I also have B&M Seville and the Reserve line is even better in performance. You do have to be careful when loading your brush so that you do not get too much soap; a little goes a long way. If you load too much soap, you will get a gooey mess. There is no need to bloom the puck before loading. This is a very thirsty soap that holds a lot of water, but add the water a little at a time until you get just the right combination of slickness and cushion. You will be rewarded well for your patience. Performance is definitely 5-star. The scent is supposed to be a clone of classic Old Spice by Shulton. I used the classic aftershave as a young man, but I cannot tell you whether the Spice soap is an exact match; but it is close. The scent is fairly strong and the aroma will linger on your face well after the shave is completed. Thus, you won't need a scented aftershave or cologne after using this one. I would have given this soap 5 stars, but the scent was just a little stronger than I would have preferred. If I were younger, I probably would have loved it.

Absolute biohazard in a bottle – DO NOT BUY
wish I could give this zero stars, because that’s what it deserves. I opened the package, took one curious whiff, and was immediately hit with the rancid, eye-watering stench of a homeless guy who’s been chewing Copenhagen all day and spitting it straight into a five-gallon bucket of raw sewage, old coffee grounds, and what I can only assume is week-old bong water for extra funk.

Great soap, horrible scent.
The soap works really good, if you use a boar brush. It didn't work so good with my badger brush. However, I really dislike the scent. Judging by the Amazon reviews, this scent seems to be their most popular, and it gets consistently good reviews. People seem to really like this scent, but it just isn't for me... But who knows? You might like it. Good news is, I bought the Reserve Fern, and I really like the smell! Which is great, because the soap works great, and now I am able to use it without gagging from the smell of Seville. Again, I recommend a boar brush for this soap. Also, this soap requires a LOT of water! It may take you a couple tries to find the right balance. Just remember to let your soap bloom, by filling the top of the container and soap with hot water and let it sit for 3-5 minutes, drain (most of) the water and get to creating a good lather! Ass water as necessary, which will be a lot!
