Stop throwing away toothpicks and start popping bubbles!
I bought this little guy because I was tired of throwing away toothpicks. It's a small thing, but it annoyed me! Then I read I was "always suppose to use wooden toothpicks to test cakes, as these metal picks wouldn't work correctly". Right then. So I started using my little metal pick with my wooden toothpicks standing by just in case. Much to my delight, this cake tester worked. If there was anything that would stick to a wooden toothpick, it also stuck to my "stainless steel wire and polypropylene" tester. The first couple of times I used both the toothpick and the tester to be sure. The results were the same each time. So I learned that you can choose to test your cakes with whichever instrument makes you happy, as they both work. Since my goal was to stop throwing toothpicks away, I have happily accomplished that. I usually wipe my tester clean with a soapy sponge as soon as I'm done using it. Wipe it dry with a towel, and put it back in the drawer. That way it doesn't run the risk of clanking around with other dishes or utensils and getting bent. I've also noticed two wonderful things in addition to the fact that this tester works as well as a toothpick: Thing one - The hole made in the cake is smaller with this tester than it is with a toothpick. Thing two - You can use this tester to pop the little bubbles that rise to the top of your batter after you've poured it in the pans and tapped the pans to make the batter settle and the bubbles rise to the top. It's delightful and therapeutic. My OCD self is quite happy with my purchase!

Works better than a toothpick
It's a little difficult to decide whether to buy a cake tester, when toothpicks also work well and are so cheap. Then again, so is the cake tester. Toothpicks are slightly wasteful. But then again, you have to wash this each time. So it's just a sort of funny and silly decision to try to make. However, I hope that my experiences with this not-so-important debate will be helpful to you :) Basically, the cake tester makes much smaller holes in your food. That's it. It is light-weight, easy to store, cheap (did I mention that?), and looks a bit flimsy but so far has withstood the bashing in my utensil jar against inevitably "tougher" guys. There is nothing wrong with a toothpick, but this cake tester will make a pin prick hold and the toothpick makes a bigger hole. That's about all I have to say about this :) Your turn to decide...

Very useful in the kitchen!
I love this cake tester! I have used it to check the doneness on chicken, baked potatoes, cooked veggies, and also baked goods. Doesn't leave too big of a hole when checking so whatever you're making won't dry out. Easy to clean, and you can store it anywhere. This works so much better than toothpicks! 8/2917- I temporarily lost my original one,....seems the cat saw it on the counter, stole it, and we found it under the kitchen floor mat after I bought a replacement. I now have two. I have also bought these to go with a few cupcake maker machines, silicone baking cups, and oven mitts when I made up baskets for holiday gifts.

Works great but fragile
This cake tester has an incredibly thin wire which is much better than poking large holes in your work with a toothpick but it is also easily bent. I wish it had come with a plastic storage sheath. It is too fragile to store in a kitchen drawer or in my pastry toolkit.

Better than testing with toothpicks!
Handy little tool... 1) Easier to find and better than spilling the box of toothpicks. 2) Better choice for testing deep/thick cakes such a tube/bundt-style cakes. 3) Quick to rinse, wipe, and re-use. Save a Tree! Try one of these easy to use Ateco Cake testers!

Saves Many Toothpicks!
We've always used toothpicks to check the if our baked goods were done, often using 2-3 in the process. I saw this cake tester & bought it on a whim. It's saved so many toothpicks. It's extremely easy to clean, too.

Must Buy!
Do you bake? Know someone who has a passion for baking? Buy this cake tester NOW! Never waste a toothpick or run around wondering where they are ever again! These are incredibly affordable, work better than a short little toothpick and leave a smaller hole in your cake (hardly noticeable!) this tester has changed the way I bake. The length ensures I really know the cake is done and it is so easy to clean and put away in my baking drawer for next time (no guilt over wasting toothpicks!)
