Review: Essential - Fantastic collection of Jean Michel Jarre's best work spanning a forty year career. Three parts from the opus 'Oxygene' are here as well as tracks from his other albums. A pioneer of electronic music paving the way for New Romantic/rock bands like Depeche Mode as well as dance acts such as Orbital. Jarre and Kraftwerk inspired many great artists that have followed since and although there have been a handful of compilations of his best known work over the years this is the most definitive and concise with great mastering on all fronts. A great introduction to his music at a bargain price.
Review: Not really Essential, but I cannot say No - There is nothing new is this collection, but I didn't expect there to be. What I would have liked is a more even spread of tracks that cover his output, but once again we get a bias towards the early stuff (Oxygene, Equinoxe, Magnetic Fields), there is nothing from Revolutions or Waiting for Cousteau, Oxygene 7-13 is notable by it's absence, and what about Teo and Tea, Sessions 2000, Geometry of Love...it really is an odd thing to release...surely an Essential collection (recollection) should cover a wider range, and I am aware it's only a single CD so there is limited space, but with his recent remasters, and a new album on the way, this was an ideal opportunity to do something s bit special...still, I like the cover and it's another disc of fine music for the collection.
