## Description

MicroLux® Micro Sander - desertcart.com

Review: I beg to differ! - I feel the need to refute a review posted on desertcart about this product and how someone was unhappy with it's performance. I would like to point out that this tool is NOT for heavy rough sanding. It's not for removing all your imperfections in a print. It's for DETAILING. I used one sticker on the triangular tip and was able to detail an entire print without removing the sanding surface from the sticker. So yes, it WILL work for 3D model post processing, if you're using it for the right things. Noting at all against the person posting the poor review. If you want something to remove all the rough stuff, I've bought a set of sanding wheels for a Dremel and have a set of sanding sticks. This is for detailing like micro files... I wish the tips were made of metal instead of plastic so there is that.
Review: Great Tool For PLASMO - I was watching one of the YouTube scale modelers that make the model cars that are hard to tell from the real thing and noticed that he used one of theses sanders. I saw the ease in which he was able to sand tiny delicate plastic pieces as well as the whole model body. I had to have one too!! After some shopping around I decided on the MicroLux Micro Sander based on the excellent reputation of Micro Mark and the MicroLux brand. I also preferred the AC plug in model over the rechargeable type. I believe a plug in tool always has more power and certainly more staying power than a cordless. This tool comes with three sheets of "peel & stick" sandpaper in three grits from 180, 240, & 400, pre-cut for the various shape sander head that come with it. I have only used the 400 from this assortment but found it to perform perfectly....expecially on the little triangle shape head. It will sand in tight spots where getting in with a sanding stick or paper and a finger would be impossible. For finer grits of sanding I use either Tamiya foam back or 3M Trizact in grits up to 5000 for fine finish sanding. I use double sided sticky tape..https://www.desertcart.com/dp/B0CTKQ4NLL?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title to attach sandpaper and foam to the sander head....works great. No need to write negative review because your sandpaper wore out too fast....I mean come on.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: why does the sandpaper come off after 30 second use**
A: Your putting too much pressure. Let the sander do the work. If it's not going fast enough removing material, step down in grit gradually until you get it right on the sweet spot. Too much pressure causes excessive heat, melting the glue and making it more viscous. Hope this helps

**Q: What is the average surface area of the attachments? Where can you buy replacement sandpaper; link, please.**
A: Not at the shop right now to measure.... but I'd say from 1/2" to 3/4" depending on shape. I would suggest NOT to purchase replacement paper as their sandpaper is pretty worthless. I simply cut out the shape on an adhesive backed sanding disc... like you would use on a disc sander.

**Q: Does it come with a US plug or does it need a separate transformer like the Proxxon model?**
A: the one I got plug in and go works great

**Q: Would this work well for light sanding of plastic models for paint prep?**
A: I am using it for wooden model ships and it works just fine so I would think it would be good for plastics as well. The aggressiveness all depends on the grade of sandpaper really.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Might be worthwhile.

There were no reviews on this sander and so I took a chance and tried it out. There is a Proxxon product that is similar... but that one needs an additional power source (transformer) which brings the cost in line with this brand. There were two primary reasons that I opted for this one over the Proxxon. A few years back I had purchased one of Proxxons mini 'chainsaw' carvers and was totally unimpressed with the quality. Small plastic pieces fell off.... and the switch was positioned where my hand would inadvertently flip the switch off during carving sessions. Secondly.... many of the reviewers of the Proxxon sander commented it that they had to send it back one, or even two times, before they received one that worked. So.... I was really hoping that this sander would reciprocate in and out... instead of side to side..... but side to side is what it does. Helpful... but not as much as an in and out motion would be. If the sander would have reciprocated in and out... I was hoping to adapt some carving files to fit. Still... while it will never be my dominant sanding tool... there are certainly occasions where this comes in handy. Currently working on carving a 'cage' and this has helped to sand the grid of bars. Of course.... an 'in and out' motion would be much better for this project. The side to side does NOT produce a crisp corner. The sander warms up a bit after an hour or so.... but not uncomfortably. I usually need a break by then anyway. I used my own coarse grit sandpaper.... by cutting the shapes from the adhesive backed rounds intended for a disc sander. The angled attachments are the only ones I find useful..... and I will probably adapt the straight ones by bending or extending. I don't find the little machine to be noisy.... something along the lines of barber shears. I'm hoping it stands the test of time. We'll see.
