The most fully adaptable pump available. Review: A smidge louder than I'd like, but not bad - I'm using the 160 to power a homemade fluidized bed with my own mechanical filtration on the intake. It is moving a good amount through all of that and still creating a decent current—supplemented with a 10" air stone—in my 20 long. It is doing exactly what I need it to do. It is a smidge louder than I would like, however it isn't "too" loud. It doesn't over power watching TV nor listening to records at regular levels. All that being said, the different options with one unit is a huge plus, BUT... the suction cups... Are not great. Still, very happy with this purchase. I have it in power head mode. I like the air hose and valve, great for adding a little extra aeration while medicating fish or increasing temperature. Does make more noise the more the valve is opened. Its quiet when its closed, and pretty mild when opened for normal use. Opening it all the way makes it fairly noisy, but then it pumps 90% air! The wavemaker mode on this is REALLY strong. The 33 gallon long tank is 48.5 inches long, the current is too strong even for fully grown pictus cats (6 inch fish) at the opposite end of the tank. For a bigger tank, sure, for this tank it was a little much, and the powerhead mode was more what I wanted anyhow, but its great the are convertible. For tanks up to 30 the 160.750 gph, for 40gal the 230/1000 gph will do the job. If you have under a 40 gallon tank a single pump is all you need to run one under gravel filter, two pumps might be too much. Anything over a 40 gal tank I recommend a dual pump under gravel filter set up. For a 50 gal tank I recommend no less than two 295/1300 gph Maxi Jets. I have two mounted into a 48x12 tank with a DIY under gravel filter set up with a modified carbon filter basket mounted on one of the pipes to draw water into it. These units are great, and pump air and circulate the water very well, my gold fish no longer behave like their stuck in a stagnant pond, you can definitely see a change for the better in their behavior, their actually happy now. If you love your fish, get them one of these. **Q: What is the tube used for on the maxi jet** A: When using it in impeller mode, you attach the tubing with the venturi to pull in air so you get a lot of oxygenation. **Q: can you use it in salt water?** A: absolutely can be used in salt water. **Q: Do you sell separately the suction cups** A: Not being the manufacturer here, they do sell extra cups. All around good pump, no complaints. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stopped working in less than 24 hrs, Updated *by D***N on November 24, 2020* Came with impeller pre-assembled unlike instructions said, noticed impeller blades were purple. Purple impeller was discontinued in 2014-15, but I tried it anyway. Worked great for less than 24 hours then quit, everything I tried did not help. Reached out to Marineland on their web site, they did not help. Returning this and ordered new one since I liked it when it worked. Will update review once new one running. :-(( 2/4/2021 New one working just fine, so updated stars to 4, one less due to slight noise pump makes.
