There were 7 in stock so i ordered 1. it said it would take 2 days to arrive. i added another gear and now it will take up to a month. why?

Are you sure you ordered this from us - E.B. Atmus? There is plenty of stock in N. Carolina, so there would be no reason for you to have to wait a month. I don't have enough information about your order to know if you are asking the right company. If ordered today it should ship today and depending on where you are located take 2-5 days to get to you.

They come as singles. You would need to order two.

There are two answers to the question "do they come in singles or in pairs" . (1)they come in singles, order two (2) comes in pairs Which is it?

Here is the review I wrote in 2012, when I ordered and received one gear: First, I was delighted to find that Amazon had this gear, with free shipping. This sort of thing is not sold at the local hardware store and I had expected to be charged for UPS shipping from an industrial supply house. The gear was a perfect mate to the older L99Y gear on my machine vise. (I had found an old, but unfinished product that had never had the second gear installed.) The new gear did not have a locking hole in the hub, so I drilled and tapped for a set screw. This was another good experience with Amazon.
