I've had my tv since 2008 and never replaced the bulb. I had forgotten about replacing the bulb and originally thought that the bulb would totally go out and then that would tell me that the bulb needed to be replaced. The picture on my screen was very dark in bright light and was considering buying another tv. I searched the internet about my tv settings and was reminded that the bulb needed to be replaced. I looked around and saw some expensive bulbs on Amazon that stated they were original Phillip replacement bulbs for over $100 but then there were reviews on the same page that said they were fake so I wasn't sure. I bought this replacement bulb because it said it had a one year warranty and could basically buy three of these for the price of one "authentic" Phillips bulb. I received the package and it said it was made in China on the outside box and that it was a xl-2200u which I didn't really care, just as long as it worked. I wasn't sure what the "u" meant but searched for instructions on how to replace the bulb and was able to replace it in 15 minutes. The original bulb needed a 3mm allen wrench to unscrew the housing from the tv but was able to unscrew it with some needle nose pliers grabbing the side of the screw. This replacement bulb uses a very small Phillips screw to attach it back into the housing instead of the hex screw. The bulb works great and it's just like having a new television.

So far good.
My original lamp on my KDF-E55A20 lasted over 15,000 hours! Purchased the TV new in 2006. There is a post online that tells you how to access lamp time on your television by pressing certain keys on your remote. I was shocked how long the original lasted and had thought it was only suppose to last 6 to 7 thousand hours. At the price of 30 to 40 dollars how could one complain?Change out was easy on my model. I started to take the rear panel off and look for the lamp but searching Youtube and downloading the manual online stopped me from making that mistake. Easy to change out.... 3 thumb screws to loosen and the seller sent a allen wrench for the one screw that required a tool.I always ran my set at "reduced power" so that may be how I got so many hours out of the first lamp. The picture is amazingly better now and looks brand new with the new lamp. I had not realized how dull it had gotten. After tweaking it a few weeks ago I can see how the lamp went ahead and died. The lamp never busted or burned completely out. The unit would power on then go blank with no unit menu and then would come back on and go back off leaving me hoping it was just the lamp.Hope I get at least 6k hours out of this lamp. So far it looks great. Maybe the Sony DLP is the Tucker Torpedo of TVs.

Stay clear of this one buy the OEM replacement
UPDATE: March 15, 2017I bought a generic replacement lamp 4 years ago. The lamp I received today came in the same exact packaging and so I'm assuming the same manufacturer. It became very obvious this latest version is made very cheaply now when compared to the lamp I purchased 4 years ago. They now simply solder the wire to the bare wire coming out of the back of the lamp. The generic I purchased 4 years ago had that wire attached with a bolt and nut like the OEM lamp from the factory. It also had a heat absorbing ceramic base covering that wire connection. In addition the blue colored lining around the perimeter of the lamp is poorly manufactured. You can see where the blue is missing in some parts of the lamp reflector. After comparing the 2 generic lamps it's no surprise why I was able to get almost 4 years use out of the first one and now, based on my comparison and recent reviews, one has a 50/50 chance of this latest generic lamp working beyond a couple of months. More importantly to me is putting something in my TV that is so poorly constructed. From reviewers that had their lamp "explode" it must simply implode/explode but will not cause a fire (I'm assuming this based on the reviews stating it "explodes" but no one has mentioned burning/fire issues) I had no concerns installing the generic lamp I received 4 years ago. I paid $40. for it. The one I just purchased for $17.95 is going back. It's not if it fails it's when it will fail and with this generic lamp when will probably come pretty quick especially if it's your primary TV and on a lot. If you really what to hang on to your TV for a while do yourself a favor and pay the extra money and get the OEM replacement. For those of you that noticed the air flow holes had no protective screens over them on these generic lamps the screens were there to keep bugs out I'm told. Apparently now even the OEM replacements come without them. I guess the engineers decided bugs were not a problem.

Nice replacement lamp
I purchased this after our tv starting showing signs that the lamp we had in was on it's last leg. Once I received the new lamp I installed it with ease. The tv was back to it's old self. Unfortunately a month later, the bulb blew and sent glass shards all over. The company was quick to do a warranty exchange, but while I was waiting for the replacement to arrive I ordered two others from a different place. Once the replacement arrived I took the current one out and put this replacement in, due to the shorter warranty time frame. I had to do some trouble shooting with my tv, so I went in between this one and the other. I'm not sure which one is in there now, but this one was in the tv for about a year showing no signs of dying, possibly going on 2 years. It's a great replacement or the price.

Awesome!!
No smell..No surprises...Ive bought a couple diff bulbs online here..last company is gone I bought from. Tried these after reading a TON of reviews and uncertain what to do. Rolled the dice here...LOVE IT! SO bright and LOOKS NEW! My Grand Wega 60 LCD is like 15 years old and with these bulbs it stays alive! I wish I had an extra 70 bucks to try an expensive on and A/B it like a Phillips or Osram..because I cant imagine they would be any brighter or better. Great value and product. Dont be scared! lol
