Non-Metallic Weatherproof Outdoor Electrical Outlet Cover Kit

I live in Daytona Beach, Florida, and we get rain, as much as we get sun, actually, we get more sun than rain, but we get rained on the less. Anyway, I bought this because I had purchased a hot tub recently, and I noticed that my condominium that I purchased did not have a GFI, GCFI, grounded outlet outside. It just had a regular outlet which was an electrocution just waiting to happen. Very shocking. So I purchased this, from Amazon, which was $10 cheaper than at Walmart, and like $25 cheaper than Home Depot, and this is an all in one set with the cover, the casing, and the outlet receptacle itself. It took less than 30 minutes to install, you just remove the old outlet, hook the wires up appropriately to the new outlet, secure it to the metal base, secure the metal base to the outside of your house or condo, and then put the plastic portion which covers the plug or adapter over it, and you're done. The plastic covering which protects from rain and the weather, can go on horizontally or vertically, so it opens either way, depending on what kind of plug you have. It fits my giant adapter that goes to my hot tub and I am very happy with it. Highly recommended and highly safe.

Installed under my eave for gutter heater cable I’m installing - disconnected the rarely used outside spot under my eave and replaced it with this receptacle in order to plug in gutter heater cable that I am installing. Instructions were clear and helpful for a first timer. Seems solid enough and made well. Could be that one could save a few dollars purchasing piecemeal but I’m happy with this all inclusive.

The kit includes a sturdy metal junction box, 15 Amp GFCI duplex outlet, and a clear plastic in-use cover. The kit also includes extra filler plates for other devices. The “fit and finish” is on par with what you would find at a local home improvement store. The instructions are very comprehensive and much more detailed than average. Having successfully installed this kit, I do have some recommendations that will make the installation go smoother. • Wait until the final step to install the filler plate for the outlet, as it can easily pop out while you're securing the screws. • Before you begin, use a 6-32” tap to clean out all the screw holes. I struggled with tightening the screws until I cleaned out the screw holes. • Visually inspect the clamping screws on the side of the outlet because they feel seated when they aren’t.

Came with everything needed. Seems like quality materials. All parts fit together well, the door works smoothly in both positions. Looks OK on my deck, but it does stick out a bit from the wall. That’s expected, it needs to have adequate room for the wiring behind the outlet.

Worked great, just remember to connect your incoming power to the LINE terminals. I wired mine to the LOAD terminals and spent half an hour trying to figure out what I did wrong until I decided to RTFM.

The Amazon picture infers that the cover is transparent. It is not. Disappointing! Be careful if you are not handy or do not understand GFI. Could be difficult as a DIY project.

Cheaper and higher quality than the kits I found in store near my house. I prefer to shop local but sometimes you have to get stuff online to get what you're looking for. This box stands out because of how rugged it is, the rubber flaps keep dust, water and snow out of the actual outlet housing, and the cover can be opened two different ways for convenience.
