Bison Pemmican Meat Bars with Buffalo & Cranberries by Tanka, Gluten Free, Beef Jerky Alternative, Slow Smoked Original, 1 Oz, Pack of 6

These are a bit pricy, but you are supporting our Dakota Indians' business. That is a worthwhile thing to do to support their community. Pemmican is made with the Meat, the meat fat, and cranberries. Bison taste better than beef. They are soft and chewy, tasing meaty with that cranberry flavor bite. YUM!!! I'm sure the kids will love them too. I do. Each bar is vacuum sealed in heavy plastic. The packaging should last for any sport trip somewhere like kayaking, hiking, skiing or the ball game. the only problem is getting them open. There are tear spots on each end, still hard to open. I use big scissors to cut them open easier. One could carefully open with a knife.

These are one of the best meat jerky type products I have tried. They are more tender than most and much more flavorful. They are easy to take in your pocket or throw in your lunchbox or bag to take with you when you don't have time to pack a sandwich. I take one of these and a couple crackers and a bottle or box drink and that's enough to get me through the day when I'm out. And great for hiking or camping too. They help keep your blood sugar steady along with some whole grain crackers. Also I like the fact that they are made with very healthy ingredients and no nitrates. Wonderful convenient product!

I think this is about my 5th or 6th purchase of Tanka stuff from Amazon and I am quite a fan. They taste great, especially the spicy blend. My only complaint with the actual bars themselves is they are a little expensive IMO for what is basically jerky, and that they could be a little spicier. Also, compared to the sticks, the bars are kind of greasy. My main gripe with these is the packaging, or more specifically, the nutrition 'card' inside the packaging. If I didn't have to peel that piece of paper off the back of the bar every time, I could eat the bar without ever getting the grease/juices on my hands. Not sure why they don't just print all that stuff on the actual wrapper but it's kind of a pain, although not a major one. I would recommend spending the extra couple cents per bar and buying the sticks over the bars. Same serving size, and much more friendly for on-the-go snacking.

The Tanka Bars I purchased were moist, solid, tasty without too much salt or sweetener, and a small amount alleviated hunger for several hours at a time. As I diabetic type II I often have hunger pangs throughout the day. Pieces from one bar provided my body with enough energy to make it dinner time without the need for a sugar lift. This helped me maintain a steady blood glucose level all day. A little bit goes a long way so it should not be gobbled like an energy bar. The taste will tempt you to do so. It is pricey, but certainly worth it. I keep several in my Go-Bag.

Fabulous product!! I am not a jerky consumer but needed to have protein on the run. Love the original, but these are my new faves. Do be aware that this flavor doesn't contain100% buffalo, which is clearly marked, but I didn't read info closely enough. I didn't want non-buffalo meat, but that spice blend now has me hooked. Also, FYI, they are not a 'hot' spicy, but have enough zing to jump start my sinuses - mildly (an unexpected bonus for a chronically stuffy nose)

These taste pretty good. Better than most. But the price for a 1oz bar is too high for what you get, imho. That said, their story is great and if you look at it as a means of backing an interesting Native American industry, then go for it.

I tried these because I saw them in REI and was curious about them. They are now a regular part of my snack supply. I hike on the weekends and my job means I'm often trapped in a meeting around lunch. I used to solve this problem with protein bars, which was ok, but not great for enjoying my food. These are not dried jerky, They are so much better. There's plenty of moisture in them (so be aware of that when you're opening and handling them). They come in a number of flavors, the spicy pepper blend is not "hot spicy" there's just a little zing. If you don't like spicy food this will still be just fine for you.

I absolutely love Tanka Bars and the cause that they support. The flavor is absolute perfection, the pepper is never overwhelming and the bars with orange and cranberry help give the Buffalo an extra flavor kick. At Natural Grocers they are pretty expensive unless on sale, so this was a great deal and also a great gift for sending directly to a loved ones house!
