Just what I needed.
Since were downsizing after finally becoming empty nesters and moving into a smaller space, I decided I needed to create some unobtrusive storage. I combined this kit, with a sturdy metal zinus bunkie board, a couple legs, and some extras hardware and now I have an awesome storage bed. Nice easy afternoon project. Best part, bed looks the same, and the wife acceptance factor is high on this project. Material in the brackets is extra sturdy and the gas pistons in the kit are pretty much perfect for a king Layla memory foam mattress. Easy up, easy down. I only needed to get some small lag bolts to fasten to the frame, and some longer nuts and bolts since the included ones were just a quarter inch shy of what I needed. But the hardware is quality and would be fine in a different application. Installation instructions are kinda negligible, but easy once you figure it out. The key is to extend the mechanism so the top rail (that mounts to your bunkie) and the bottom rail (that mounts to your frame) are parallel. Now the bunkie will be at the height of that top rail and you need to mount the bottom rail to your frame in a location that gives you the height you want for storage. both obviously should be parallel to the ground and square with each other so your bed is flat. Once the brackets are mounted, and the bunkie is mounted to the brackets, lift the bunkie up extending the hinges and then add your gas shocks in place. They are super stiff. This is normal and required. Now manhandle your mattress on top of the whole thing and that weight should offset all the stiffness and it should move properly. I found it key to know the weight of the mattress and bunkie so you can order the set with the correct weight gas shocks. I also made a point of ordering the kit with the longest support arms (not mounting bar) to give maximum support to the bunkie. The steel used is solid and more than strong enough for the application. I'd also suggest ordering a few bolt on legs to give additional support to the bunkie board and mattress and you are good to go. I use one leg at each far corner away from the brackets, and 3 down the middle of the bed. I also chose to skip the clamping hardware the legs came with and drilled through the bunkie edges to solidly bolt the legs on with good 5/16th bolts and locking nuts and washers.

Great storage option!
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Will require reading extensive instructions. It will need to have a place to truly adhere it to. The hardware is pretty sturdy. Make sure you’ve got the tools to. Good ones.

It works and it's sturdy
Used for a Full size bed, follow instructions clearly. Expect A LOT of force on whatever this is attached to. My bed is heavy and this can just about bring it down but it's not super easy. Just know it's robust and it works. Also most important instruction that is not emphasized enough in the instructions is that the bar supporting your object and the stationary piece that acts as the base need to be parallel when all the way down. If not the hydraulics won't line up and you need to lift this thing up to align the hydraulics because they come fully extended. Giving 5 stars because it works as intended all the way.

No instructions at all and bolts to short for a 2X 4.
I’m giving these lifts 1 star because there was no instructions, the hydrolics was very stiff and was too much for the suggested metal bunker board slates I purchased along with the lift for a queen size pillow top mattress. It won’t stay closed so I had to purchase a latch to go at the foot of my bed to latch it closed. I don’t have to worry about it closing on my head cause it’s very powerful and pops right up. It’s hard to close because of that fact. I will say it is very durable and well built. It’s just very stiff and there’s no way to calibrate the pressure.

Works great for a King mattress
I built a bed frame that would use these hinges and shocks to lift a King pillow top mattress, and a platform made out of 2x4's and a 1/2" sheet of plywood cut into slats. It takes a little bit of upward pull to get the shocks to the point where it will lift unassisted, but both my wife and I can do it. Definitely not a 1 handed lift though. These will keep the bed raised without an issue, and pulling down takes just as much effort. You'll might need to buy some extra lag bolts/screws and washers to attach it to your frame, but those are cheap. I had to countersink the provided bolts about a 1/2" into the side of a 2x4, which was then screwed to the inside of the bed frame.

Just what I wanted
These work great. Built my own frame and installed these for a Queen Size bed. They didn't come with any install instructions. I'm resourceful so it wasn't a big deal for me. It would be nice if they came with a mounting template, though.

Poor instructions
Instructions are pitiful. Bad illustrations and guidance for installation. Still dont have them installed properly after HOURS of trying.

Strong and worked great on custom made king bed. My only complaint is that instructions would have been very helpful so you knew spacing, gab, and geometry of how mechanism worked. Took some trial and error to get it correct.

Yes as everyone other reviewer said it comes in a mangled box with no instructions but hey it’s gonna take a lot for it to get damaged in transport. it doesn’t take a genius to figure out how it works and how to install it, look at the video provided and it shows what way the hydraulics go, it works as intended and honestly this mechanism saved me from spending 3 grand on a storage bed so I couldn’t be more happier with the purchase. : a couple tips if your installing it, mount it closer to the foot of the bed frame and before putting the hydraulics on make sure you can lift the frame that the mattress sits on freely without it being restrained from the head board or anything, avoid this and you should be ok. Good luck

Bought to go under my bed. Very firm and solid piece but it does not go up or down just stays up and no instructions were provided. ): disappointed as it’s not a cheap device

Had high hopes for this bed lift. Went to put it together though and one of the shocks was completely seized. Was also disappointed it did not come with the bolts to put it together or attach it to the bed. Went out and got all the bolts to put it together only to notice after that the one shock was seized.

Product received was totally unusable, the structural piece were twisted (had to repair, before installing). Extremely cheap (soft) metal structure. In addition, the gas cylinders are not of equal strength, hence one side of the bed is extremely hard to push down versus the opposite side. Don’t waste your money!
