Easy install, durable metal, foolproof to use, toddlers will hate them.
“Oh he’ll never be able to get in there with the door latched!!” (Kid gets a long toy, flips open the hook latch, and gets in) “Well these door handle covers will keep him out” (Kid pulls cover off, gets in the room) “Let’s try these GlideLok things!! Its too high up for you to reach to even mess with!” (Kid glares at GlideLok, his nemesis and gatekeeper, protector of breakables, jailer of fun and recklessness) I give GlideLok 5 stars, my son gives GlideLok no stars 😂 These METAL GlideLok latches are really great. My husband installed them (3 latches) in under 10 minutes total. Our house was built in 1780 and has historic doors that have been painted over a few times. The gaps between the top door edge and the door frame vary from squeaking on one door to a fat gap on another. We hand sanded the top of one door just a tiny bit and GlideLok fit perfectly! GlideLok’s instructions are VERY helpful and intuitive. They are in American English, not a weird translation. The whole set is made of metal, which is important when making something that’s supposed to keep a door shut. There have been times when one of us has just gone to open the door and go through forgetting the GlideLok, and it held up to it fine. If it were made of plastic it would have definitely broken!! This lock requires a screw to be screwed into the top of the doorframe. There is a plastic sleeve that fits over this screw. I like this feature, it makes the lock slide smoothly as well as look neat. I’ve had these locks in place for a couple months now and we use them constantly. My son likes to run out of the house into the yard, but doesn’t always wait for someone to come with him. (He also always doesn’t wait for shoes. Or clothes). We have GlideLoks on the doors going from the main living area into the kitchen, hall and the rest of the house, so we are constantly locking and unlocking them. They keep my son safe and where he should be! There is no damage to the doors. We followed the directions that says to use a white crayon (or candle) to lubricate the tops of the doors if they were snug, but we just did all the doors. They never squeak. All in all these genuine GlideLok latches are exactly what I needed. Don’t buy the crappy plastic knockoff ones!! These locks have been banged around quite a bit by my family and they still work perfectly and look great, too. Highly recommended products for parents!!

This will be a permanant item in our household
To combat my special needs sons dangerous habit of wandering, I had searched all sorts of methods and this is the one that was immediatly the most secure and cost efficient. 1. It's lockable/unlockable from both sides of the door so no worries of accidental lockouts/ins & makes it perfect for use on interior and exterior doors alike. 2. It's simple which means user friendly & cheap. 3. It installs at the top of the door so I won't have to worry about him reaching to manipulate it for some time. 4. With a spring I can rig it to auto latch once the doors closed thus preventing him from using a stick to slide it open. (will also work to remind my mother to use it as she would 't be able to close the door without latching it) I looked into dual sided mechanical keypads with levers but the decent ones start at $250. Add the fact that he could eventualy glimpse us entering the code and do it himself, this makes for an expensive who knows how temporary solution. I tried a door alarm that would sound when the door opened but my elderly mother kept turning it off. I tried a special latch for inside the front door but that only works if I'm home to insure it's used. I tried GPS locating devices with geofence abilities but they seemed notorious for false locations and only worked if the child was in clear sight of satelites, = no woods or buildings. I can rest a little bit easier with these installed. Of course if your situation is like mine this alone is far from a complete solution though it is proving to be part of one.

Easy to install, effective, and won't lock you in!
We needed a solution for childproofing our pantry door, and after researching lots of different options I came to realize that there was no one perfect solution. The door itself has a rotating handle (as opposed to a door knob) on both the inside and the outside, and there are several products that will lock the door by preventing this handle from rotating. The problem with those products is that the inside and outside door handles rotate together, so blocking one from rotating will block both of them. This means that if you go into the pantry, the door closes behind you, and the mechanism activates (or your toddler activates it), you could be locked inside. I have read several accounts of this scenario happening, including in the reviews for those products. What I like about THIS lock is that it can be activated (or deactivated) from either side of the door. Installation couldn't be much easier: you attach a peg to the upper door frame with a single screw, then place the sliding mechanism on the top of the door. That's it. There are, however, a couple of challenges: 1) The lock may not slide easily along the top of your door. If that's the case, take a candle (a votive or something) and rub it along the section of the slider that rests on top of the door, and that should help it slide more easily. 2) Depending on the height of your door, the lock may be too high for you to reach it. Fortunately the slider has a hole where you can attach a string and use that to pull the slider back and forth. Unfortunately this means you'll have a string hanging down from the top of the door frame, which sort of negates the otherwise subtle appearance of this lock, but sometimes that's the price of childproofing. 3) Depending on how solid the door is, your child may be able to force it open if he/she pushes hard enough on it and breaks the lock mechanism. Worse still, a finger could get injured. Our pantry door is about 8' tall and lightweight, so if our daughter pushed really hard on it the door would "twist" as the lower part moved but the upper part didn't. If the lower part moved enough to clear the door frame and she got a finger in the gap, her finger could get injured from the door springing back into place. So yet again, childproofing doesn't substitute for parental guidance and supervision! Bottom line: Despite a few challenges, this lock may be the best way to childproof certain doors, especially because it virtually eliminates the risk of you (or someone else) being locked inside.

Perfect for front door
Don’t notice it, at the very too if door, and so very easy to lock and unlock from inside or outside. Critical safety solution. Grandmother uses it and loves it too. For the first time, my almost 3,5 year old son unlocked front door opener it and went outside alone. He was having a tantrum after long car ride. While I was rushed to use bathroom as tantrum went on, quickly as I could, he unlocked and walked out of our front door (luckily he was just sitting quietly on our porch!) still a horrifying situation. This product seriously works. At least one less thing for me to worry about. I like that it’s actually A metal piece screwed into the door. Not flimsy at all. Not wedged in or stuck on with “strong” tape. I Will order more for interior doors also because with my threenager’s tantrums, you just never know when you will need to secure a door. Genius invention! Now I want one for sliding doors…Please!!

I should’ve bought this sooner
This is super easy to install. I did it without my husbands help ladies. The instructions are easy to follow but the video here on Amazon makes it so easy to know what your doing. It took me less than 5 minutes to install all three. They work like a charm. The only tip I would add to the instructions is to install this towards the end of the door where it opens (see photo). It gives it a little more stability to keep larger kids from pushing till it breaks. I got these to keep my 6yo out of certain rooms in the house. This works perfectly and I am going to have to buy another one.

Looked at many options and read reviews and decided this was the best fit for us
I originally purchased these GlideLoks in July 2014 and they still work flawlessly today! I use the plastic door knob child proofers for other doors in our house, but our front door has a lever handle. After my escape artist of a toddler son figured out how to unlock every single door in our house, I had to find a solution. Looked at many options and read reviews and decided this was the best fit for us. I wanted something that was out of his reach, and that would last for years to come, but wouldn't prevent someone from coming IN the door from outside...and this fits the bill! These are designed to fit thin and thick doors. There's a piece that's attached when it comes in that makes it work for thinner doors, but if you unscrew that piece and take it off, it's great for thicker doors, too. I use this on our front door, and I used another in the pack at my MIL's house for when he's there visiting, and looked them up again today to order another pack as we just replaced a sliding glass door with French doors. Only con, to no fault of the product, is that if you're short in height, like myself, you have to get on your tip toes to slide the lock over when a step down at the front door LOL I have weatherstripping on the outside perimeter of my door and it does not cause any issue. Only suggestion is to put the GlideLok on top of your door and slide it around to find the smoothest transition BEFORE installing. They do tend to make a slight mark at the top of the door over time, but nothing really noticeable (as shown in photo). Highly recommend, especially if you have curious little ones!

Where had this been? I wish I had seen it before!
After having at least 3 different lock items that failed (yes, baby went into the bathroom by himself even when the safety devices in place), we decided to give this a try. It's very sturdy, slides well if you install it on the right spot. Our doors seem to have very irregular gaps above or on the sides of the door between the door and the frame, but this fit perfectly once we found the spot where it didn't have much resistance. I love that it opens from both sides, so we have one reversed on the bathroom door of the guest room, where the screw is inside the room instead of outside, and opens very easily. It doesn't slide if the baby shakes the door to open it, which keeps my mind at ease, since that's what we experienced with some hook and eyes and even a door bolt previously installed. I like that it's very high on the door (I'm 5'9), so kids can't reach even if they climb on something. Parents who can't reach that high, could install a thread on the little hole on the slider to move it and reach well. I would buy it again on a blink. Thank you for this magnificent product! I've told all my mommy friends about this one.

Doesn’t work with all door frames
These locks don’t work on my door because of the trim in the door frame. I’m so disappointed! The included video made it look so easy to install but there was no mention that they won’t work on some door frames. In the video the door frame has a flat trim piece but in my house the trim piece is beveled. Also, it was very difficult to slide the lock once it was over the door. I didn’t bother to lubricate the door since it wasn’t going to work for me.
