Steady build-up to an amazing finish

In Sophie, we have a teenage girl who just wants a normal teenage life. Except she can control the elements and must keep that part of herself from her non-powered friends. As the plot takes her out of her comfortable, mostly normal world, she struggles to find herself. This character journey is woven into a plot that builds to an exciting crescendo at the end of the book. Leaving you amazed at the journey the author has taken you on. And ready to pre-order Book 2.

The storyline is original and moving. Keeps you wanting to find out more. In the process of reading book 2 and just ordered book 3. Don't want the series to end!

### ⭐⭐⭐

Good start with room to grow.

The concept behind the storyline is very intriguing and I like the idea of Elementals. I find it interesting that the strength in power seems to lie within females. I also like that Sophie, the female Main Character, already knows what she is, and is training for an eventual position as a guardian. This is a nice deviation from the norm of a main character learning that they have powers, and they they’re special. However, Sophie isn’t allowed to train with her powers because the EA, the governing body for elementals, are very strict about using magic due to exposure.Although I found the premise interesting, it was really hard to get into this book. It moves slowly and the language is very verbose. We spend most of the book listening to superfluously detailed descriptions about unimportant things and the storyline gets snagged in spots because of this. It loses its flow and I get bored. Also, I found Sophie very frustrating. At first when we meet her, she seems mature and focused, but she isn’t. Not at all. Weirdly, as much as she supports the EA she is also aggressively against a lot of their rules and restrictions. I get teenage rebellion under strict rules, but Sophie takes it too far. Despite numerous warnings and her own acknowledgement of her poor choices, she continues to do it, putting herself and others at risk repeatedly. She also doesn’t appear to learn from her mistakes, and continually makes very idiotic choices, resulting in disastrous outcomes.I enjoyed the supporting characters a lot more. Lena is naive but more mature and sweet. Aiden is by far my favorite. He is very mature, focused, dedicated, and intelligent. He is only a year older than Sophie, but has to clean up her messes and cover for her constantly. The chemistry between Sophie and Aiden is extremely palpable and although I love the feels, I am not currently a fan of Sophie because she is so far from Aiden’s level. The information we receive at the end makes the book a lot more interesting but we have to slog through the rest to get to it. Sophie has a ton of room to grow and mature in the series and for her sake I really hope she does, because the book ends on a cliffhanger and she better step up
