Great gameplay. But the gods make it something special!
Oh what a surprise. I liked a game that lets you fly around to your heart's content over a gorgeously rendered landscape with lots of tall things to jump off. I did though. It was a lot of fun. Yeah, there's not a lot of originality in Immortals' gameplay (um, play Breath of the Wild, much?). But quite frankly, I don't care. If you're going to take inspiration, it's always better to take it from the best. And let's be honest here, it's not like this game adds nothing to the formula. While amazing and indeed landscape-changing, BotW’s world was in many ways pretty bleak (intentional though that was). The colourful faux-Greek island of the gods, however, feels richly peopled – an achievement, considering said people are mostly turned to stone. The reason you never feel lonely however, is because of who joins you on your journey, constantly looking over your shoulder and breaking the fourth wall. As much the stars of this game as Fenyx herself are the Olympians, Zeus and Prometheus, who pretty much narrate the entire journey, making snarky comments on how you’re failing, one-upping each other, and sometimes even educating you on actual Greek mythology. So yes, the game’s fun. And it’s more fun for how much fun the gods are having while watching you glide and ride and bash monsters all over the place. The puzzle dungeons never got boring for me. The ease and pleasure of traversal more often had me NOT opting for fast travel. And that, for me, is a plus in any game. Play for the gameplay. But play with the sound or at least the subtitles on, because without them you’re missing out on some truly ambrosial dialogue, worthy of the Olympians from whose mouth it flows.

A very worthy alternative to BOTW
I can only speak for myself, but this game is one of my favourite games I've ever played. I think it is a worthy of comparison with BOTW. Fenyx plays in a very very similar way - but with the art and culture of greek mythology; what's not to love here? I'm about 10 hours in and I really really love this game. I personally only play it in hand held mode and this feels like the way the game was meant to be played. I love the art style and the culture and architecture which really immerse the gamer into the fantastical world. It is not gritty, it really is a beautiful world to roam and explore. I love the narrative and fresh comical (yet weighty) approach to story telling. This game for me does something a game hasn't done for 20 years. Bring the massively overused Greek mythology back to gaming, and get it right. This game isn't groundbreaking, but it has done something which I've been waiting 10 years for. For me it fits the bill perfectly. Good graphics which are suited to hand held mode, open world, greek mythology (done well and freshly), solid rewarding combat, character development... This game fills a massive gap for me, a gap that has been waiting to be filled since 2000. An RPG open world, greek mythology game in the style of Zelda BOTW. One of my favourite games of all time so far, only topped by Zelda BOTW, Witcher 3, Skyrim and the classics. Although not a genre defining game this game brings together superb elements from other titles to open world greek mythology. Its not a game of the decade, but for me it is one of my favourite games I've ever played.

Good game
The bad first: a lot of people have compared this to BOTW I agree that some of it does look and feel like a clone...it seems to have only cloned what was so annoying. The stamina bar when climbing and gliding. The open world feels empty with a lack of NPCs...I was hoping to break up the grind by interacting with town people and random encounters to get a laugh and some side quests. Sadly the world whilst it looks good is full of enemies and all work and no play makes Fenix a dull peep. I would have liked more of what worked being that this has taken many aspects of BOTW. The puzzles are a thing it doesn't do well. The vaults in BOTW were scattered just like the puzzle vaults here but lack the challenge. I haven't needed youtube cheat walkthroughs once in my 8 hours of play which makes me feel like this is over simple. The exploration aspect isn't rewarding and there is no surprising things to find...all points of interest can be seen and marked from various high places. It makes the exploration just uninspired and not very rewarding and if you're anything like me just walking around an open world to unwind and discover is one of the big things of open worlds..not with this one. The good: this is a good looking game with lots of space to run around in which is also the games weak point as open worlds are now so often empty spaces. The upgrading system has more choices than i'm used to but it is good to be able to choose between upgrading godly powers or your skills. The narration between Zeus and Prometheus are fun. The fighting is good. Overall an entertaining and good looking game but missed the mark a little for me.

One of my favourite games!
Amazing game! I'm so glad I took a chance and bought this. I had heard of this game at the time of purchase but I hadn't read any reviews or the summary of the game's storyline. I read it was about Greek mythology with action and I was sold (I love history). This game is a brilliant mix of action fighting (hack and slash), puzzles and humour between characters. Character appearance customisation is somewhat limited but with clothes/weapons/pets the options are vast! I think I'm nearly finished with the game but there is a DLC pack available too which I may get because this game is honestly amazing. If you have played and enjoy Zelda Breath of the Wild, Skyrim and love a bit of humour please give this a go. You won't be disappointed.

Adequate waste of time
Decent enough gameplay and visuals but doesn't have the magic of Breath of the Wild. There's too much stuff on the map, too much filler. The dialog and constant cringy jokes became annoying after an hour. This is an adequate waste of time but don't expect a classic.
