Excellent filler for metal.
This stuff is amazing for filling in cast iron castings or fairing out other metal work. Pinholes and other defects are easily filled. I found that pure acetone easily thinned the product without the need of buying the pricey thinner. I had the best luck mixing it really thin and literally painting it on the parts. High spot? Brush over it with thinner to smooth it down. Low spot? Brush over it with more Lab Metal to build it up. Great stuff.

Best product for filler
Works great for filling patches; permanent repair unlike Bondo which can crack; be sure to buy solvent, because lab metal dries very quick and can't be handled after about 5 seconds unless you spray solvent on it.

Use it quickly because it hardens fast
Used to repair small rust holes in my tractor deck. Did the job, but not the easiest to work with as it starts to harden as soon as you open the can. Whatever you have to do, do it quickly!

Lab-Metal is a quick patch product for metal
I needed a product to fill a small, quarter-inch crack in a hot water boiler system. Water was leaking out of the cast iron boiler onto the basement floor. Boy, what a mess for such a small crack. Lab-Metal filled the crack and stopped the leak. It got me through the entire winter and saved me big dollars until I could afford to replace that boiler in July of the following year. You should also buy Lab-Solvent when using Lab-Metal which will assist in thinning out the material so that it can be applied much more easily.

Was not able to use
Product was mostly dried up when I opened it today, I tried to use it but it just balled up and fell off of the piece that I was trying to fix.

Not suitable for powder coating despite its claim.
Product was easy to apply with the solvent by the same company. However, despite the technical information being followed precisely during use on a sample- the piece of steel started smoking and off gassing horribly in the ovens. This was not attempted at home/DIY, but at a pro powder coating business. They had to shut their equipment down. I’m glad I didn’t jump ahead and put it on my final project. The good: I tested this product over plain, degreased carbon steel as a well as sandblasted carbon steel. Adhesion was good on both- even with a subsequent sandblast test. It’s just a shame it doesn’t respond well to heat considering that’s what they market it as.
