Review: fantastic - fantastic! so good, so clear. wow. what a find.
Review: A photo for every recipe, clear instructions and great results - The Australian Women's Weekly books specialize in great photographs, showing the completed meal for each recipe (invaluable for letting you know what result you're aiming for), clear instructions and helpful additional photos to show how the recipes are put together. The recipes really are easy to follow, and there are some excellent ideas for meals that I have never attempted do at home, all of them perfectly manageable. The book is divided into four main sections (Entrees, Main courses, Desserts and Sweet Treats) plus an index and glossary. Particular highlights for me are: fresh asparagus with hollandaise sauce (with recipes for 5 different types of hollandaise), fresh herb souffle, coquilles saint jacques, duck a l'orange, chicken ballotine, chicken with fresh tarragon sauce, steak bearnaise, beef bordelaise, lamb en croute, racks of lamb, pork with apple sauce (more exciting than it sounds), mussels in white wine, fish with beurre blanc, chocolate fudge cake, poached pears sauterne, peach clafouti, lime souffle, cointreau chocolates, mille feuilles and mini cream horns. If one is looking for a downside (hard to find) it is that that there are a small number of recipes using ingredients which aren't very popular in the UK and may be unattractive to some buyers - including 1 for tripe, 1 for lamb's brains and a couple for veal. I love seafood but if you don't like fish or shellfish you'll be in trouble with this book because there is a lot of it. Overall, an excellent purchase.
