Jack Malik was just another struggling songwriter…but that was yesterday. After a mysterious blackout, Jack (Himesh Patel) discovers he is the only person on earth who remembers The Beatles! As he rockets to fame by passing off the Fab Four's songs as his own, Jack risks losing Ellie (Lily James)—the one person who has loved him and believed in him from the start. Before the door to his old life closes forever, Jack must decide if all he needs is love, after all. Kate McKinnon and Ed Sheeran also star in this romantic rock 'n' roll comedy from Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Richard Curtis.Bonus Content:Alternate EndingDeleted ScenesLive at Abbey Road StudiosFeature Commentary with Director Danny Boyle and Writer/Producer Richard Curtis Review: What A Funny and Sweet Story - I saw this movie at the theater and wanted to see it again, so I got the DVD. This is such a funny story chock-full of favorite Beatles songs. Jack, played wonderfully by Himesh Patel, is a wannabe rock star with devoted friends but no fans, as his music is very ordinary. During a mysterious worldwide power outage, Jack is injured in an accident. When he is released from the hospital, his friends present him with a new guitar to replace the one that was mangled when he was hit by a bus. They coax him into singing a song. They listen with rapt attention and tears on their faces while he sings "Yesterday." At its conclusion his friend says, "That is the most beautiful song you've ever written." And just like that, The Fab Four never happened. Even Google cannot dredge up a single mention of Ringo, Paul, John, or George. Jack becomes an overnight sensation as he begins to perform one Beatles song after another. Listening to these songs is a highlight of the movie. When Jack struggles to remember the words to "Eleanor Rigsby," he makes a field trip to Liverpool, hoping to get some clues. Laughter abounds as Jack struggles with his newfound fame and the guilt of being a fraud. His biggest doubts emerge when it is apparent that in a life of touring the world he stands to lose his relationship with longtime schoolteacher friend Ellie (who should be his girlfriend if Jack would only open his eyes). It takes an encounter with 78 year-old John Lennon (the lookalike took my breath away) to make Jack realize that "all you need is love." Jack devises an ingenious plan to extract himself from the trap of big money and fame, much to the chagrin of his money-grabbing manager, hilariously played by Kate McKinnon. This is such a cute movie with wonderful music and a very creative, happy ending. The DVD version features deleted scenes and an alternate ending , which my husband and I immensely enjoyed. I watched it at the end of a mildly stressful day. My mood was instantly elevated. "All my troubles seemed so far away." Review: A Musical Fantasy That Will Make You Smile - If you're a fan of The Beatles, or just enjoy feel-good movies with a touch of whimsy, then Yesterday on Blu-ray is definitely worth checking out. Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis, this film is a charming musical fantasy that will leave you with a smile on your face. The premise of Yesterday is simple but intriguing. After a freak accident during a global blackout, struggling musician Jack Malik (played by Himesh Patel) wakes up to find that he is the only person in the world who remembers The Beatles. Armed with this knowledge, Jack starts performing the iconic band's songs as his own and soon becomes a worldwide sensation. Along the way, he must navigate the pitfalls of fame and decide what truly matters to him. One of the standout features of Yesterday is the music. The Beatles' timeless catalog is brought to life in a fresh and exciting way, with Patel's soulful voice and Boyle's creative direction. Each song is expertly integrated into the plot and adds to the film's overall charm and nostalgia. But Yesterday isn't just a musical showcase. It's a heartfelt story about love, friendship, and finding your own path in life. Patel delivers a nuanced performance as Jack, and he is supported by an excellent cast, including Lily James as Jack's longtime friend and love interest, and Ed Sheeran as a hilarious version of himself. As for the Blu-ray release, the picture and sound quality are top-notch. The film's vibrant colors and sweeping shots of the English countryside are especially breathtaking in high definition. The bonus features are also worth checking out, including a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film and a commentary track from Boyle and Curtis. Overall, Yesterday on Blu-ray is a must-have for fans of The Beatles and anyone looking for a heartwarming, feel-good movie. It's a musical fantasy that will transport you to a world where anything is possible, and remind you of the power of love and music. So go ahead and press play, and let the magic of Yesterday sweep you away.

updated: An awesome, sweet, intriguing, very funny movie that's family friendly
This movie terrific and very sweet, very funny, with an intriguing premise. There is not much swearing, or dropping of the f bomb, or blatant r-rated scenes that would make you cringe if you were watching it in mixed company. I'd already seen it on Netflix and was excited to purchase a copy. The dvd arrived fast. I'd originally remarked that the sound quality was lacking, but it turned out I had our stereo sound on the incorrect setting. We've watched this movie many times with different people and everyone was delighted with it. My husband said it never gets old.

I don't usually buy hard copies of movies because I don't watch most of them more than once. I have a list of favourites that I own - and Yesterday made the list as soon as I saw it in theaters! I don't have a BluRay Player so I was able to give that disc to family members and kept the DVD myself. Combo-pack for $10!! How awesome is that! If you are looking for a film with a sweet, funny, and touching story, this is a great choice. It is a little predictable as some reviewers have stated, but it is unique enough that it's still fun to watch and has an uplifting message. The comedy is hilarious and not crude or over-the-top. Even though some moments are emotional, there is nothing upsetting or stressful so it's fun to watch any time. I think this would appeal to nearly anyone, but of course especially to anyone who loves The Beatles. I especially love how Himesh Patel made the songs his own but still paid a worthy tribute to the Fab Four. Even though many of the cast members are relatively well known, I found myself forgetting and seeing them as their characters which always tells me the acting is great in a film!
