BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns, & Moonage Daydreams (OGN biography of Ziggy Stardust, gift for Bowie fan, gift for music lover, Neil Gaiman, Michael Allred)

I saw this book in a museum in Brussels, but couldn't buy at the time. On return I ordered it at the very good price offered by Amazon. Digging in, I read it cover to cover in one sitting- a rarity for me. The story is amazing on its own and this book gives it so much visual life- the important details connecting so many dots, with very rich detailed imagery. It is just captivating. If I could, I would give it more than 5 stars based on the package- presentation, content, very high quality print with brilliant colors, nice glossy-ish finish on the pages, and a solid heavy paper stock give an overall great feel that you don't get all the time. I see that the book is made in China, but it is a very very good quality product with much attention to detail. I just wish it followed his story through the 80s and onward, but I understand there was just so much going on in the early days. Things happened so fast that it needs to be told this way. An excellent job is done here as far as tying in the explosion of the music and art scenes at the time. Update: I just ordered one of these as a gift for a family member, also a Bowie fan and a fan of many of the contemporary artists that are featured in the story. You cannot go wrong at this price, it is an incredible value.

This book is a thing of beauty in every sense of the word. From the plot, to the dialogue, to the beautiful art and colors, and even the overall construction quality of the book! It’s clear from one reading that Mike Allred and Steve Horton have done their homework on Bowie and their love for him shines through on every page of this book. I’d say this is an essential purchase for anybody who loves Bowie or Comic books. I’ve been waiting on this book for a while now and it was completely worth the wait! Anyone on the fence should just go ahead and buy this now. You won’t regret it.

My granddaughter loves this book and all things David Bowie. This is a big book with extremely engaging drawings and bold graphics. It was her favorite gift at Christmas. The fact pages at the end of the book are well written and accurate. loved this book.

Great Book & Unique in the sense that it held my attention (which is rare) the comic Illustrations that go along with pages keep you intrested & wanting more, the Idea of the Illustration is Genious to say the least, & the stories are VERY INFORMATIVE, adding spice to things that I had already known, though it's not a New book(as far as Publishing) it is to me . Well Put together & Imaginative.. shipping, cost & Time were a Plus!!

Brilliant...stunning...add this graphic novel to your collection!

Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns and Moonage Daydreams, written by Steve Horton, is a detailed & insightful journey into the events of David Bowie's intertwined life and musical ventures. This book is packed full of trivia many of us did not know. Illustrated and colored by Micheal Allred and Laura Allred, respectively, the book is as vivid and colorful as Bowie and his on- stage personas. The only element I didn't care for was the lack of fluid-like continuity. Reading the Bowie book felt more like a high speed slide show. Although one might argue that it's my own failure to expect it to have been written to my standards. Nonetheless, a great book about a unique, legendary rock star who influenced more than a generation!

The book is great - fantastic art, and nice cohesive Bowie story hitting the right beats. But the quality of the book was terrible - someone took a knife to the cover and scratched it all over. All 4 corners were broken. I got this delivered at a time when i was out of town for some work. By the time I came back, the return window had closed. Stuck with this now. So disappointed!

Bowie was certainly one of the most important and influential musicians of the second half of the 20th century. For many of us, he opened doors to new ways of being. Mike Allred clearly loves Bowie, hence this extended celebration of the man's life and art. For a Bowie fan, it's a joy. Allred's style is all clear lines and vibrant colour, which suits this subject matter perfectly. As his graphics guide us through Bowie's life and work, there's much pleasure in spotting where he's using artwork of the period to fill out backgrounds or incorporating other figures who shared the singer's life. Allred captures their likenesses beautifully. Sometimes they're identified in the text, sometimes not. The story interweaves Bowie's life with his music, which is absolutely as it should be since his life and art were so inextricably bound together. All the personas are here, all beautifully drawn, from the Antony Newley impersonator of some early recordings, through Ziggy (of course), the Thin White Duke, the White Soul Boy, and so on. As well as the great art, a lot of research has clearly gone into the writing. Having been a Bowie fan since the 60s, there were things here I did not know about his life and work. If you're a Bowie fan, it's a great book. If you're not a Bowie fan, you might be by the time you reach the last page!

Absolutely fantastic retelling of the Ziggy Stardust legend. The art is amazing and the writing freely flows as prominent figures weave in and out of the Bowie’s life during the Ziggy period. Worth every penny, you will not be disappointed.

Insofern ist es eine naheliegende und sympathische Idee, David Bowie eine Graphic Novel zu widmen. Mit BOWIE: STARDUST, RAYGUNS & MOONAGE DAYDREAMS von Michael & Laura Aldred sowie Steve Horton wurde eine solche nun vorgelegt, welche in den letzten Monate international für beträchtliche Furore sorgte. BOWIE: STARDUST, RAYGUNS & MOONAGE DAYDREAMS ist bei all dem keine wirkliche Biographie, da natürlich auch immer wieder Lyrics von David Bowie illustriert werden und der klare Fokus der geschilderten Ereignisse in den 60ern und den 70ern liegt. Wer also einen kompletten Überblick über die gesamte Karriere von Bowie haben möchte dürfte mit BOWIE: STARDUST, RAYGUNS & MOONAGE DAYDREAMS nicht optimal beraten sein, die 80er und die Zeit danach werden eher ausgespart. Meiner Ansicht nach ist dieser Punkt allerdings hier zu verschmerzen: das, was David Bowie so bekannt machte und die Phase seines Schaffens, welche ihn als einen echten Ausnahmekünstler etablierte, wird hier definitiv gewürdigt - dies stellt für mich keine Schmälerung seines Werkes in den späteren Jahren da, sondern ist einfach eine notwendige Schwerpunktsetzung, auch, um den Rahmen einer Graphic Novel nicht völlig zu sprengen. Ansonsten wird auf 160 Seiten ein wirklich toll gemachter und ausgezeichnet erzählter Trip durch die Welten von David Bowie geboten, und gerade mit entsprechender Hintergrundmusik steht dem Leser ein wirklich aufregendes Erlebnis bevor - denn die Möglichkeiten einer Graphic Novel wurden hier ausgezeichnet genutzt. Der Zeichenstil ist klassisch und klar, und selbst ohne große Vorkenntnisse sollte man der Schilderung folgen können. Alles in allem: für Fans anspruchsvoller Graphic Novels und natürlich allen Fans des unsterblichen David Bowie ist BOWIE: STARDUST, RAYGUNS & MOONAGE DAYDREAMS bestens zu empfehlen. Von mir gibt es klare 5 Sterne.

He sido fan de David Bowie desde que estaba en la primaria -aquellos mágicos años ochenta- y desde he siempre he amado la literatura, la música y los cómics. Este libro, hermosamente ilustrado, me hizo recordar -por su forma narrativa-aquellos cómics de Clásicos de la Literatura de Editorial Novaro. El estilo del señor Allred es muy bueno, y se nota la larga trayectoria en el mundo del noveno arte. Definitivamente lo recomiendo tanto a fans de los cómics, así como a los del señor David Bowie.
