It's a Two Way Power model, so if I get the solar cell under a good light it will run, but sometimes my office is just not that bright - hence the need for battery power. There were so many 389/390 batteries to chose from. I just decided to go with Duracell - that's been a good battery for me over the years. When it arrived, there was no date of any kind on the packaging. I popped the battery out and it was at 1.59V with no load. That was good enough for me.
