It works really well!
This is the type of veggie peeler that I grew up with in Europe. When I moved to the US, I had no idea how to use an American peeler and still struggle with them, as they don't feel terribly intuitive to me. My last Swivel peeler passed away before its time (because my husband doesn't understand that there are some things you don't leave in the sink) and this style of peeler has been hard to find in Hawaii. Luckily for me, there is Amazon, and this peeler! It's a fantastic and simple vegetable peeler. You use it pulling towards you, and it's nice and sharp, so peeling is a breeze. The little plastic blade cover is a nice touch, but I'll probably misplace it eventually, because it's small and my utensil drawer is a black hole. I don't know if this is the peeler for everyone, it's not super fancy, there are no bells and whistles. But it works - really really well.

Awesome tried and true peeler
Thrilled to find this on Amazon! I still have one that my husband had when I married him 19 years ago. I had bought another one about 10 years ago in a knife shop in Munich when visiting family. They are awesome peelers, nothing like what can be bought here in the States. The blade stays sharp for many, many years. Even though it has a screw on blade and can be changed, the screws rust and can't be turned. I supposed if it was washed and dried immediately so no rust occurs then it may work. I however, do not always do that unfortunately. I have had no need to change the blade even though it's used just about every day. I bought this new one because I was able to find it and have been so worried that the one we've had for probably 30 years may get lost or lose it's sharpness so I wanted a backup while I had a chance. You will NOT be disappointed with this purchase. It has the additional piece on top that is used to cut the eyes out of a potato.

Glad I finally found it...
I have an old one (30+ years) that still works well, but it starting to rust a little. So glad I finally found it here. It is the same quality as the old one and works great. It peels super fast and not concerned with cutting myself. I recommend it to those that need a peeler that is peels really fast and it's safe to use

It's great for potatoes, but don't buy this as your only vegetable peeler.
Ahhh I remember mom using one of these she brought back from Germany. I'm not sure if it's really a "vegetable peeler" per se, I'm sure it was designed as a potato peeler and later marketed to a wider audience. This type of peeler sacrifices flexibility for control. It's designed to be held with your index finger tucked under the curvature, bracing the piece of food with your thumb. Use your wrist for the peeling action. Imagine the way you might peel an apple with a paring knife, similar concept here. It's not meant to be grabbed by the handle and worked with the entire forearm, for example when peeling a carrot (you wouldn't do that with a paring knife, would you?). It might seem odd at first to bring the peeler towards you (and a bit scary, you keep telling yourself you're going to slice open your thumb but it doesn't happen). You can peel relatively round vegetables with ease and quickness, and the hook on the side is great for carving out little eyes in the potato. Works great on veggies with a thick skin, like potato. It's not suitable for say, carrots or asparagus as mentioned before. It also doesn't work well for something like small to medium beets, which are hard and have a very uneven surface. You'll spend twice as much time trying to peel a beet with this than a traditional peeler. If you peel a lot of potatoes and apples, this is a great peeler and you'll find it works very fast and efficiently, once you convince yourself to use it how it was meant. Don't buy this as your only vegetable peeler though. As another reviewer mentioned, it's for right handed folks, but can be modified with some effort for lefties. As a bonus, there's a quality blade guard included so you don't cut yourself if shuffling around the gadget drawer.

Swivel Famos vegetable peeler.
Seen this peeler on You Tube. Some people in Germany were using this thing while preparing potato pancakes. Quick delivery. Used it one time so far and it is much better than my old fashion Army potato peeler. Little more expensive than my old peeler but hick, I like it.

Poor Quality.
A glorified SCRAPER!!! Zoom on on the edge. And this passes their quality control as sharp??? Nicks and not at all sharp.

German potato peeler
A long time ago I received a German potato peeler. It lasted a good 15 years. It finally started rusting. So I replaced it with this one. I actually peel zucchini and yellow squash with it, once a week at least. So you know it’s wet a lot. I’ve had it for months and no rust yet. You need to hand wash and dry it right away. But for this particular thing I think that’s best anyway. Once you’ve used a German potato peeler you will never go back to a regular one.

Good but not as good as the original
I had my previous Westmark peeler for approx 20yrs. It had a red handle. The blade stayed as sharp as the first day I used it. It finally fell apart much to my regret. This one is not as easy to use as it does not seem to peel as easily. I appreciate the sharp blade and it is better than other peelers but not as good as my old one.
