How water proof are these?

I just got my boots last week. Been pretty rainy so I have gotten the chance to really test them out. I walk my dogs a couple miles every day. Lots of walking through tall grass and fields. So with it being raining I am usually soaked. The boots stood up for 3 days as waterproof. On the third day they soaked through. Since then I have dried them out well a few times. As soon as they hit water now they soak right through. Whatever waterproofed these was gone in under 10 miles.

Is the material natural leather or synthetic leather?

The nubuck type material is merely decorative. The main body beneath is a cross weave nylon that looks like rip stop material.

Are these really waterproof up to the ankle? How long can they be submerged before taking in water?

I have not tested this. I have walked through a couple inch deep puddle - no problem. I have bicycled in a hard rain and my feet stayed dry. But I have not walked through deep, deep water.
