works well, useful, cheap finish
I replaced a Schlage keyed deadbolt with this combination item. It works very well. A combination lock allows my kids to open the door without having to keep a key. While I used to be "latch key kid" myself, my own kids are never home alone. Nevertheless, I might send them to the door with bags/groceries etc. while I'm still at the car. When we come back from walking the dog, they can open the door for me. I have confidence knowing they'll never be locked out. A combination lock means my wife and I don't have to carry keys. My wife has an electronic fob for her car, and my car uses a switch and starter button (old school). Eliminating the house key means no more keys at all. Brass metal keys, including Schlage and Kwikset have too much toxic lead in them. So much that they've been sued by State's governments but they are unlikely to change. Not having to handle a key reduces exposure to lead. The lock functions well. It was easy to install (to replace existing deadbolt) and the result was the cylinder turns easily, it fits properly, and works smoothly. Locking and unlocking from inside is just a turn of the large lever. Locking from outside involves pushing the top "Schlage" button and turning the knob to lock the deadbolt. Unlocking from outside, you can either enter the 4 digit combo into the keypad and turn the knob, or you can press the Schlage button to illuminate the keypad and then enter the combo and turn the knob. A 4 digit combo is quick and secure enough for the level of security this whole product is intended for. It provides for more than 3000 possible combinations, so a brute force attack on the combination is not as likely as a brute force attack on the door jamb or window. This is not a high security product, as it is intended for doors that can be kicked in, breached with a ram, or bypassed. The buttons appear to be durable and not likely to soon reveal discrepancies in use, but the combination can be changed easily to level the use of different buttons. The lock also supports multiple combinations, and therefore temporary combinations. I looked at alternatives, but determined this simple option is best. I imagine future cars (and houses) will have two-factor authentication to use -- you'll need to have something (probably a digital certificate with private key on your smartphone device) and to know something (a PIN), but you'll probably have an (slightly less secure) option to pre-enter or save the PIN so that you'll be able to open the door or use the car just by being near it. This combination lock won't unlock just because you're nearby, but it is a pretty easy PIN to enter. I looked at alternatives that include Bluetooth or Wifi connectivity, but they all involved a proprietary service with subscription or a device that was too expensive and unproven. I don't have long term results for this product yet, but expect it will fair well for several years to come. The brushed nickel finish on my Schlage door set failed with peeling varnish after about 5 years. I would have thought it would be nickel plated, but apparently they coat it in some kind of plastic varnish and it comes off. Because of that, I also doubt this combo deadbolt product is really brushed nickel, but instead it is probably the same fake painted-on finish. Edit: It's 2 years later and this lock continues to work brilliantly. I bought another for the door between the garage and house. Before I bought the second, I looked into "smart" locks and what's available today. The best feature they offer is automatic locking/relocking so you don't have to remember to lock the door on the way out -- but any lock that uses a motor to move the deadbolt is going to run the battery down faster and will depend on good alignment of the bolt with the strikeplate. My door is not misaligned, but the reality is that changing temperature and humidity causes the door frame to move. I think I prefer to use a little muscle and lock the door myself rather than depending on Alexa to do it for me. With this lock, I don't even need to bother with a key to lock or unlock it. It's great.

This is a great lock
Though the instructions are truly horrible, cannot say enough bad things about the instructions, installing the lock is easy and works great. Reprogramming to my own choice is easy and those instructions are actually good. It is good that there is a key back-up. The battery lasts about 2 years and is easily replaced. This is my second time buying this lock.

Rock solid!
I've replaced the lock in my house 2 times in the past year, so I decided to invest in a keypad model. I rent out a couple rooms in my house, and always change the lock after a tenant vacates. This would cost me $30-$50 a year (depending how many tenants I had). I explored a few of the wifi enabled locks, but don't think the technology is there yet. Seems there are issues with opening/closing the lock remotely (due to battery drain) and I wasn't happy with the cost to maintain the wifi access on a monthly basis (not to mention, many of the models require the purchase of a router). I stumbled across the Schlage and was instantly intrigued! The reviews on this product are great (and well justified)! The price is over double what I would pay for a basic lock, but I would earn the money back in 1-2 years, so it was a no-brainer! I received the lock and installed it within 20 minutes (including setting up 4 additional user codes). Truth be told, I'm a terrible handyman and usually screw up the easiest of household repairs and updates. However, the instructions were very clear, and the product itself well labeled and designed. I was surprised that I had the lock working in no time, and with no issues! I really admire the build of this lock. They did a great job in making sure all the pieces fit together well and are comprehensively labeled. The battery and wires are snuggly positioned within the housing, the construction is solid and sturdy, and it looks sharp! Programming was straightforward, and usage was a breeze. The only feedback I have is that when I lock the door, the lock waits 5 seconds before it's fully locked (meaning you could still open it). I'm not sure that's a benefit, as I don't know of anytime I need to unlock the door right after I've locked it. So, I'd like to lock it and walk away without the 5 second delay (it's the OCD in me to check the lock). So far, I love this lock! I put a lock box (with key) behind my house in case of battery failure or an electronic glitch, so all I have are my car keys-awesome!

2 Months Of Use
In the 2 months I've used this lock it has functioned flawlessly! Installation was quite easy, just follow the instruction closely and you'll be fine. A note on instructions; as pointed out by another reviewer, there is a crucial step in the instruction wherein a certain component must be aligned properly. It is quite easy to do, but also easily missed, so once again, follow instructions! The lock is easy to use, easy to program, of good quality (it would seem to me) and none of the buttons have faded in the slightest yet. There is a feature I like in particular- it lights up at night, if you press the Shlage button, so you can see the keys to type in your passcode. This lock is a significant upgrade in convenience from having to fish around in your pocket for keys. I'ts also a level 3 lock; most homes, by default, will have level 1s, so it's an upgrade in security as well. Will update if I have issues. So far, money well spent. Update: I've noticed that two combinations, at least, of my passcode will open the lock. My specific passcode and one other variation using the same numbers. Not good! Knocked down to 4 stars. Otherwise, no issues.

Easy install
Great value for money and easier to lock than the smart version. Instructions covered how to program a code. Only downside is using the key to unlock is a little difficult the way the knob spins.

Muito satisfeito com a qualidade e nível de detalhe. Recomendo, tanto que já comprei 2 pra colocar na porta da casa e no portão.

We now have two of these. Our first we bought some years ago in a Black Friday sale whilst in the USA. If this new one is anything like our existing one then we’ll have no complaints. Our first one is used daily & has been 100% reliable & looks as new as the day we bought it. Feels & looks strongly made, surprisingly easy to fit (we think!) Highly recommended.

Works really well so far. Like the fact that the latch is not moterized, which can be unreliable. When you enter the propped code it engages the latch so you can manually turn it. No proper code and the latch just free spins. With motorized latches there can be issues times when the door fails to lock due to the motor not filling pushing the deadbolt in, and often those types of locks will not give you any visual clue that the door is not locked. This one doesn't have that issue because you turn the latch manually after you enter the code so you know

I bought this lock for a fire door from the kitchen into the garage. It gives easy access from the kitchen and no key access from the garage. It is a substantial bit of kit, but is simple to fit, with excellent instructions. You should note that it is sent from USA, but this was swift and efficient. Recommended.
