For best application practices, apply in half-lapped layers with enough tension to create a uniform wrap. For most applications, this tension will reduce the tape width to approximately 5/8 of its original size. When taping pigtail splices, wrap the tape beyond the ends of the wires and then fold it back to provide a protective cushion against cut-through. Scotch Vinyl Electrical Tape 35 is a US-made, professional-grade, nominal 7-mil (0.178 mm) thick, electrical insulating PVC tape. In accordance with NFPA 70, National Electrical Code–where flame, sunlight and cold resistance is required–this adhesive is best used as primary insulation on applications up to 600V at a maximum temperature of 80 °C (176 °F) and minimum temperature of -10 °C (14 °F) on joints and splices in wires and cables. The tape's color-coded system helps identify cables on cell sites, phase coding, motor leads and piping systems to improve safety on industrial, commercial and residential jobs. ​ UL Listed, CSA Listed, and RoHS and Prop 65 compliant, use Scotch Vinyl Electrical Tape 35 for critical indoor and outdoor operations where General Vinyl Electrical tape is not recommended.

Review: Usual 3M quality. It's hard to beat and worth the price. - I needed colored electrical tape to color code both wiring and some fluid handling hardware. I picked 3M because I knew it would deliver. It did. The gray color is excellent and cannot be confused for any other color. The Scotch 35 product line is a consistent deliverer of quality. I've used several lines of 3M Scotch electrical tapes, all based on the conditions that I expected the tape to face. In some cases, reality has turned out harsher than expected, but the electrical taped joints continued to be intact and worry free. To me, that's why the little bit extra that the 3M products can sometimes cost, is worth it (though I often find it's the same price as other brands.) You do need to check the packaging though as I've seen cases where the tape is counterfeit. The easiest way I've found is to just look at the printing on the inside of the cardboard core. It will say "scotch 35". If it doesn't, it's not a 3M Scotch 35 product according to their customer service.

I needed colored electrical tape to color code both wiring and some fluid handling hardware. I picked 3M because I knew it would deliver. It did. The gray color is excellent and cannot be confused for any other color. The Scotch 35 product line is a consistent deliverer of quality. I've used several lines of 3M Scotch electrical tapes, all based on the conditions that I expected the tape to face. In some cases, reality has turned out harsher than expected, but the electrical taped joints continued to be intact and worry free. To me, that's why the little bit extra that the 3M products can sometimes cost, is worth it (though I often find it's the same price as other brands.) Good value for a tape that really sticks, do not worry about it coming undone or the color fading. It has worked great, it is easy to tear, and will stick to almost anything.
