Durable and beautiful
Perfect for decor. Comes with instructions on how to fill up. The filling up process can be tricky so filler the directions and you’ll be fine. It gives you step by step instructions the instructions tell you how to read your device if you’re unfamiliar with it. It also had comfortmeter with temperature and humidity dials.

Exactly what it is supposed to be... (almost!)
I ordered this barometric pressure indicator as an interesting weather item to hang on my wall. I wasn't looking for a thermometer or hygrometer, this one just happened to have both included for a reasonable cost. My home is filled with interesting items and gadgets, and many antiques - so the thought of having an old-school item such as this has always appealed to me. I received exactly what it is intended to be: an interesting wall piece based on old-school technology. It is not of particularly high quality: it is not lead crystal glass, the wood base is not hand-carved by German Black Forest craftsmen out of some exotic wood, and the instruments at the top are not high-end or expensive... but it looks neat and it is a conversation piece. Out of the box I noted first that the two screws provided to mount the drip cup bracket were undersized - they would not even begin to tighten in the holes, so I simply replaced them with a slightly thicker set. The screw provided with wall anchor for hanging the unit did not fit the bracket: the head was too large in diameter, so I simply drilled the bracket hole out a little larger (or you could find yourself a screw with a smaller head), and all was fine. A bit annoying, yes... but it was not an expensive unit so the extra $0.02 in screws and 2 minutes of effort I had to apply was no big deal. It would be great if the glass had markings for filling and noting changes in barometric pressure, but this item is intended to be more of an interesting visual indicator than a precise, calibrated measuring instrument. Once it's filled and installed (fill the glass to about 1" above the top of the neck outlet) adjustments can be made to the inside and neck levels using the supplied syringe: you must first determine what is the current barometric pressure in your area which you can obtain online from any local weather service. Standard pressure is 29.92 inHg, so at that atmospheric pressure the level inside the glass should be equal to the level in the neck. If your current barometric pressure is higher than 29.92, the level inside the glass should be higher than in the neck, and vice-versa. When pressure drops, the water goes up the neck - when it rises, the water goes down the neck. You will probably need to check it over a few days with varying pressures in order to get it relatively close. You can get a small rubber o-ring from the plumbing section of your local hardware store and slip it down over the neck to note minute changes from day to day. Again, this is more of an interesting conversation piece and decoration - and that is how it is priced. No visible defects or flaws (other than the screws) - I'm happy with the product!!!

Beautiful weather barometer
I bought this for my mom for Christmas. As a kid, we used to have a liquid weather barometer hanging in our kitchen, and she said all she wanted for Christmas was a new one, since the one from my childhood broke in a move. I think she totally forgot she told me she wanted one, because months later, at Christmas, she cried when she pulled this out of the box. The wooden backing is beautiful, the glass feels high quality and was well packaged in styrofoam. It even has a little drip tray in case the water overflows from the barometer pipe. Beautiful! Glad I ordered it!

Fun weather stuff
I absolutely love this thing. If the spout is below the water the pressure is HI. if the spout is full and spitting out the pressure is LO. Confusing but fun. All I know if the spout is full, some weather front is coming.

Very Cool Item
Beautifully made and a conversation starter. However I bought this barometer to add some science to my fishing, which I believe it will as it seems pretty responsive to changing weather conditions. However there is some confusion over how to interpret the readings. The instructions indicate that a rising level of water in the skinny tube/spout indicates falling barometric pressure, but the FAQ states the opposite. I called the company and they confirmed that the paper instructions are correct, i.e. low spout level = high relative pressure. As far as initial setup, you want to set the level when local barometric pressure is at or close to 30.00. You can find it by Googling. Adding a drop of red oil (as recommended by previous reviewer) is a great idea to keep the water from evaporating. I also asked the company rep why instructions call for "indoor use only". He said only for the purpose of protecting it from breakage, otherwise no problem. I mounted ours in our screened patio and looks good there. Hope this helps.

As an avid comfort-meter, thermometer collector, this one's no frills ,yet looks upscale and accurate. You have to fill the storm glass with your own pigment (e.g. food colouring).

Love this wall mount it sits on the wall in line with my railing so I can look at it as I am going out the door. Particularly before fishing as I am trying to see if barometric pressure effects my fishing success. I like this old system for its antique scientific look but also because it is easy to tell if pressure is rising falling high or low. Doesn't give you numbers but I've always been an estimation type guy anyhow and its nice to look at it while trying to guess the pressure. I just go to the weather forecast to see where the current barometric pressure is then remember roughly where that is on the spout.
