The elastic is good, the adjustment clips worked, and the belt buttoned onto the pants. It worked like it should. So why 4/5? The adjustment clips are thin and don't inspire confidence that they can hold the tension. The leather ends and junction felt more like pressed cardboard - again does not inspire confidence that it will hold - especially if it got wet. For what I paid, it did the job and looked fine.
