The Hiblow HP-80 is a compatible replacement for the Gast SPP-80, Thomas 5078 and 5080, and many other 80 LPM air pumps. The Hiblow HP-80 is commonly used on many 500 GPD systems. **Q: So this is good to be left outside in the rain? Like it's fairly water proof and/or rain resistant?**
A: I would put a cover over it it doesn't need to be sealed but enough to keep direct rain off of it.

**Q: Where is this made?**
A: It is not made in China they are made in the Phillippines

**Q: how big a pond is this recommended for? My pond is very small:  20' diameter and 2' depth at max**
A: It wasn't clear if this was for aeration or winterization, but either way, the HP-20 would be enough, and probably the one I would recommend, although you could use the HP-40.  I would NOT go any larger than the HP-40.

When we bought our house we knew nothing about septic systems. So when the 10+year old air pump went out and the septic company quoted a minimum of $500 (and probably more like $800) to replace it, I went the DIY route. I bought an inexpensive pump that had the same specs and installed it. Easy. 18 months go by and the cheap one is buzzing so loud we can hear it through our bathroom wall. So I ordered a “better” inexpensive one and installed it, but it was still very loud (76 dB-C at one foot). So I returned it and decided you get what you pay for, and ordered this one. After installing it this morning, I measured the sound at 63 dB-C … about 1/2 as loud as the cheap one. The build quality is dramatically better, so I’m expecting a very long life. Pay for quality, get quality.
