I wasted more time than I'd like to admit with a less expensive modbus to IP gateway trying to get data from my spacepak heatpumps. The particulars of how to do this were not well documented and I fumbled around trying to get diagnostic info from another device (waveshare) and never got much useful. The Moxa device worked straight out of the box, software is well structured and pretty easy to use, the device has traffic monitoring built in so you can see what it is doing. It still took me a while to get my heatpumps talking to my automation system (homeassistant) but I got there -- the key was the realtime monitoring to see the traffic. By only changing the baud rate I was able to test it with equipment I keep on my desk. Furthermore, by changing only the IP address it was integrated it into my laboratory setup. It worked immediately. I also like that there are different models with different port configurations.
