5weeks of travel help
We just returned from 5 weeks in France. We used this book thoroughly to plan our itinerary and took it along for reference as we traveled. The format is easy to navigate and the comments very helpful. Our trip primarily was focussed on visiting lesser known places than the big ticket places and this was very helpful. Also used a website called France This Way to find small villages and towns. A good combination for planning an extended visit to France, or many small trips.

Much good information.
I've used Let's Go for France, Paris, and other locations for years, and have been very pleased with them. I picked a hotel in Bordeaux where I stayed a few years ago, and thought it was great! There have been comments in other reviews about the size of the volume. True - but you have to realize France is a large country with a lot to see. There's very much good information in Lonely Planet, and, yet, ironically, if I were going to make a major investment of a trip to France, I'd consult other works as well to get more choice on hotels, where to eat, etc. Also for more details on sights (the Green Michelin is good for this - either the one on France, or Paris, or the various regions). Lonely Planet does have good sections on French history, literature, cinema, etc. Perhaps not complete enough for an avid francophile who studied French in college, but certainly adequate for someone going for the first time. Perhaps it's just my interests too, but I didn't notice any mention of Auvers-sur-Oise, just outside Paris where Van Gogh spent his last days. Perhaps I just didn't notice them, but I didn't see the Fete des Vendanges in Montmartre in early October mentioned, nor the Journees de Patrimoine (mid-September) mentioned. The Journees de Patrimoine are held in other places in France, and, I believe, Europe as well. So while I enjoy Lonely Planet very much, and depend on it, it might be a good idea to consult other guide books as well.

Best in the market
Just because it's the most complete I have ever seen...and I have checked several more, free and paid. A major advantage for my wife and I is the fact that we can share it at the same time, either in the Iphone or Ipad wit full features.

Kindle edition is very poor
I bought the Kindle edition of this guide. I would advise not to buy. Perhaps this is the problem with any ebook Travel Guide but it is virtually impossible to find anything. There is really nothing I would call a conventional index and there is very little in the way of interactivity one would expect in a electronic travel guide. While this may be the nature of the beast I really think if Lonely Planet is going to sell ebook guides they should put some effort into the electronic side. There are a number of (free) apps which do a better job.If you must buy the hardcopy but not the ebook.

Travelling around France
This is a comprehensive guide on what to see and do throughout France with a breakdown into each region. this has suggestions for all budget allowances. Great guide to own for reference value. Provides many suggestions on places to see and travel routes to take.

good but in this case the book IS better
Good but the book is better for quick reference and finding information about the area you are in easily.Would be good if you could to the area of interest not just search for places where the word is used. E.g la rochelle takes you to that part of the book. Not just places were it is referenced. Make map finding easier. But lighter than the book on a good note.

Lonely Planet France Travel Guide Helpful
We purchased this guide for use in conjunction with a river boat cruise through wine country around Bordeaux, preceded by a day in Paris and two days in the Loire Valley. While it didn't cover all the towns we visited (although it covered more than other France travel guides we checked before purchasing this one) and its organization leaves a bit to be desired in certain respects, it was helpful in identifying worthwhile sights and some good restaurants..

In need of an explanation and an index
I own the hard copy but it is heavy so hoped the kindle version would be better. The information is reasonable but it is very hard to navigate. The table of contents needs an operating manual for those who aren't digital natives. There needs to be some way of constructing an index to make places and topics more accessible. Still a work in progress.
