Life Changing Program
I happened across this book & the Clean program purely by chance, but I'm so glad I did. I have been having nagging little health problems for years that I instinctively believe could be managed without medication if I just knew (and actually DID) the right things.I work as a physical therapist & see the results of poor lifestyle choices every day and I'm determined to manage my own health better. In his book, Dr Junger explained the background of his program very well and it made a lot of sense to me. I have felt for a long time that my diet may be part of the reason for some of my issues. The ideas in the book resonated with me, and I think the timing was perfect---I was just ready, finally, to make drastic changes. Fortunately, at the time I discovered the book, I also found out about a group "cleanse" that would be taking place with support being provided by Dr Junger's "Clean Team" via Facebook. I joined the group and had a successful cleanse, losing 8 pounds and feeling so much better! The program is not a weight loss program, but of course most of it hope to lose some weight and I was so happy that I did. I have been unable to drop even a pound in the last year or two despite changing my diet & being extremely active. The program requires that you make radical changes in your diet for a period of time in order to remove all foods that are known to cause problems (sensitivities, allergies, etc.). This is difficult if you've never done something like this before, but I got the hang of it. There was a steep learning curve and sometimes I just didn't know what to eat, but once I got into the program I found that I loved many of the new foods I was eating and I adapted to the routine quickly. I had to learn about new foods (new to me, like coconut nectar, kale, and others) but found that once I knew where to find them & how to prepare them, I loved them! My new favorite foods are kale chips, warm wilted greens, sauteed mushrooms, and roasted chickpeas. Go figure---this is from someone who was addicted to Diet Coke and Honey Nut Cheerios. It was extremely helpful to have the Facebook page and the weekly calls that supported those of us doing the group cleanse. People shared their triumphs, their struggles, new recipes, and tips. The Clean Team is incredibly responsive & supportive. I got all this for the ten bucks or so that I paid for the book. The program IS centered around dietary changes, but is really helping you to begin a healthier, cleaner lifestyle that minimizes toxins and allows your body to function properly. My suggestion would be to read the book thoroughly to get an idea of what you need to do, then do a little additional research. You can buy a kit from the Clean Team that has all the supplements and protein packets, etc already prepared for you, but I did not do that. I read through the book, made some notes, researched products, checked out prices, and thought about what made the most sense for me. I made plans for what I would eat, did my initial shopping, and then went with the flow for the next few weeks. As I said, there was a steep learning curve for me, and it was sometimes hard to stick to the plan, but I did it and I'm better off for it. It did take a lot of time as I was learning about new foods, preparing meals in advance to take to work or on outings, and having trouble finding some foods that I'd never heard of or used before, but now I know. After you do the cleanse, you reintroduce the foods that had been eliminated, one at a time. This takes another couple of weeks, but is extremely helpful. This idea had been suggested to me years ago by a naturopathic doctor, but I was not ready at that time. It's a big deal to do something like this (the whole program is about 6 weeks long), but it's the best way to find out if something you are ingesting is causing you problems. I've been finished with the cleanse and the reintroduction process for a couple of weeks now. I find that I don't crave the things I was addicted to anywhere near as much as I did, and when I do give in to the cravings I don't like the stuff anymore. I never thought I could break free of my Diet Coke addiction and I have! I am eating better in general and continue to notice positive changes in my health and my outlook. This program has started me on a healthier, cleaner lifestyle. I can't recommend it enough, but I won't say it is easy.

Long Time Clean Program Follower
As a practitioner of clean for more than 2 years now, I can vouch for the results. I read some of the posts that are critical of this program and wanted to dispel some of the theories that are floating around : This is a detox program, not a weight loss program. The primary objective of this diet is to eliminate toxins from your body so that you can increase the ability of your body to fight diseases. Weight loss is and may be a by-product of this program, but definitely not the primary reason. Dr Junger does not force anyone to buy any of his products. Those are mere recommendations for busy people who may find it convenient to buy them online instead of putting them together everyday. The book has everything for one to understand and get through the program. There is no need to visit any website or refer some external content. Lastly, I read some comments on mistakes with recipes listed in the book. Frankly, everytime I do this program, I prepare my own dishes using ingredients in the "allowed" list. For example, I cook some wild rice, heat up a pan, toss some ginger garlic paste, onions and chopped mushrooms in a little coconut oil, add some sea salt, mix them all together and I have a tasty and healthy fried rice. I can list 100s of such creative stuff that I make on a regular basis. I try and do this 4 weeks every six months. Sometimes I skip, but in essence that is what I try to follow. I can tell you that I have a lot of energy, lot of stamina and have improved a lot from a health perspective. So here is my take on the program. This will be the most worthy 10$ you would ever spend in your life. I am not going to debate if Dr. Junger is a qualified dietitian or a nutritionist. IMO, it is unnecessary. Read the book and you will understand why I am saying this. Most of it is common sense and logic, along with the expert opinion of a board certified MD. Happy Living..!!

A must read if you love life, living and value your health. Easy to read and grasp the principles. Makes the challenges of changing our thinking and choices easier by his unusual use of short period detoxes to promote health. It is the first book where I have learned the true benefits and not just the superficial ones of the need to detox. If you love your body , value your life or want to gain vitality and even ' get your life back' this is a book and life plan for you. True health is the focus and how to help ourselves naturally. am well read about health and nutrition but thus book stepped me up to a new level. I am so grateful to have come across it. Thank you Dr Junger.

Even though following this diet requires more sacrifice than what I am willing to do for extended periods of time, it was extremely useful to read about the toxicity in everyday food, and the elements with which we get in touch on a daily basis. I think that even if one does not adopt the whole system (which I would do in a heartbeat if I was sick with something serious like diabetes, or I had cancer) (I am not, I am vegetarian, and quite healthy), one can adopt some principles about non processed food, that still will increase our life quality.

A essayer absolument.

This is the best book I have ever read. Excellent information about how your body works and how switching to natural foods and away from all the carbs and sugars we eat now can not only make you feel better and lose weight but fix a lot of out physical and mental problems. I have done a lot of experiments over the last 10 years and finally changed my diet just before I got this book and it was amazing to see that everything I learned on my own was also expressed in here, plus a whole lot more. Personally, I did not do his clean program (yet, at least) but the changes I made to my diet were very similar to what Junger describes and I can tell you that the results were incredible. Within a week I felt MUCH better and started losing weight. It's now been 3.5 months and I am down 40lbs. Right up until the day I made the change I was saying "There is no way I can lose even a single pound!! I'd have to exercise 5 hours every single day!" but here I am losing weight continuously and I have done very little exercise. And I have a lot more energy and actually want to exercise (I still can't find the time)! And I'm not starving or very hungry at all. I don't really miss all those other foods and have very few cravings for them. I keep telling people "This is the easiest thing I've ever done!!" and it is the absolute truth. The hardest part about changing your diet is the fear of how difficult is will be. But trust me, it's not difficult at all. If I can do it, anyone can! Anyway, I can't say enough about the information presented in this book. It should be a huge part of what kids are taught in school. We are taught far too many lies about food and this is a HUGE step in the right direction. HIGHLY recommended.
