Better than a normal pen of course
Fun, simple little toy. I never received any complaints for using it at work and it was just nice and cool to have there sometimes. As a pen, it gets the job done, but it's definitely not a great option as a balisong trainer as it is made of cheap plastic and is very lightweight (which is usually not an enthusiast preference) but it's nice to have. Its tradeoff for not being a good balisong trainer is that it can be used to write with and it is not very expensive. It would be rather costly if it was a regular pen, but, you see, this is no regular pen. Based on my understanding, the Heavy Duty BaliYo is probably a better enthusiast option but it will obviously cost more. I've had this for a few months, I stopped using it regularly but it hasn't broken on me so that's good. I don't really use it anymore because I haven't been bringing it to work and because now I have better balisong trainer options for at home and outside of work. I may eventually buy the heavy duty one some day.

Super cool but actually writing with it feels awkward. It broke in my backpack tho.

Spyderco Again Creating the Greatest American Knives & Now Pen / Toy. Hours of Fun!!! www.baliyo.com Shows it All
This is a fun playful product. Spyderco is the knife of such special forces units as the Marines and Navy Seals. There's a reason your favorite book characters like Hannibal Lechter and Jack Reacher have them as their weapon of choice. Look on You Tube, and you'll find Kahli Martial arts. This is a Filipino martial arts style that involves knives and sticks, and is taught to Marine Special forces. Spyderco is the knife they are trained with. While living in Golden, Colorado (where Spyderco is located), my fiance and I were given lessons from a former Marine in exchange for designing his website. Everything they make is made here in America,. The steel comes from Seki-City Japan. If that's not engraved on the blade, you don't have a real Spyderco, and there are MANY fakes. I learned this at their site and factory. Or call them in Golden to confirm. Because nothing on earth beats a Spyderco product! The BaliYo is just the final nail in the coffin of every other knife maker in this country. How on earth do you make a PEN FUN? Spyderco asked that very question, and used it's knife making skills to create BaliYo. This pen is fun, cool looking, and great for your coordination, dexterity and strengthening your hands. Just go to www.baliyo.com and you will find hours worth of entertaining tricks. Bored at work? Stuck sitting and waiting? Simply unclip your BaliYo from your pants with the two metal clips and pass the time learning your newest trick or creating new ones. Whenever I'm bored, watching TV, or even reading, I check at the Baliyo site, pick a trick, and get to work. What's even more amazing is this really is a comfortable writing pen! It took me one day to get used to holding it the right way, and already it's my favorite. Wet, dry, upside down, this pen is designed to be used any time anywhere any way. While more and more American companies are selling our country out by sending jobs over seas, Spyderco proves that American's can still do the job best when given a chance. Thank you Spyderco for once again bringing me the best of the best!

Decent product for the price, but is very high maintenance
I've had this product for around a week, and so far the performance is pretty nice, especially in comparison to the "butterfly pen" I had been using. It sounds pretty, has only pinched me once or twice, and the handles feel pretty good. However I have had a couple problems with it, the first fo which, and the biggest, is that the screws come out super easily. Within the first couple hours of having it I dropped it from a couple feet onto carpet and one of the screws came out, and the next day the same happened again. Also the latch fell out. The worst part about this is that the crappy star bit wrench that comes with it strips immediately. I would say overall this product is worth the money if you are willing to spend a little bit of time pulling apart and super glueing the pieces together so the screws don't fall out, but if you can you should probably look for something more durable.

Best money ever spent.
This is by far the best thing I have ever spent my money on. It's small, lightweight, and is almost addictive to flip. I almost can't stop flipping it around. Pros Sturdy Lightweight Easy to flip I won't have any problems flipping during school Cons The fact that it is very light makes it kinda hard to return to using my actual trainer. Pen cartridge is a pain to screw back on Clips don't stay on after removed and then put back on. Fanning and rollovers are difficult, but not impossible. I'm giving this five stars because the cons don't affect the flipping too badly. Rollovers, while difficult, are not impossible. I practice quite a bit, since if I don't, I lose my touch. Doing a rollover requires very good timing, but once I nail it with this one, I can finally do a helix on my trainer.

A great gift for fidgety kiddos
The internet is inundated with people doing tricks with butterfly knives much like the yo-yo craze of yore. This is the next logical step up for a kid who isn't old enough for the real deal and won't get SWAT called on them like if they are flipping around a balisong trainer at school or at the bus stop. I docked one star because replacement ink cartridges are kinda' spendy and it's a lot smaller than pictured.

Great and all but
Great for tricks and curing boredom I had a lot of fun with them the biggest problem is that they break so easily I have orders 3 and all have broken the same way I orderd a normal black one first but it broke at the part where one of the screws is the plastic around it broke so I ordered another one but in the grey version it arrived quickly but I had it for 3 days before it broke in the exact same way so then I ordered a Bali to wing expecting it to be the best one it arrived and I was so excited I was doing tricks and fun stuff with it on the first day but then on the second day it broke at the same point it was one of the best feeling ones but I was sad when it broke even faster than the others

Not Recommended
This pen is not the heavy one offered by spyderco, so the "heavy" description in the title is wrong. Its the light one. Too light really as the lack of weight in the "weighted ends" makes it hard to flip around. So its kind of ok as a fidget toy, but not something you can actually use like a balisong action for practice. It definitely doesnt work the same as the knife both in the size, weight, and action. Sadly its not much good for writing either as while the pen part writes surprisingly well, its very awkward to hold and write with since the arms dont lock back in the open position and so they are flopped over your hand uncomfortably if you try to hold it and write. Can't recommend as a pen or fidget toy, but I'll keep trying for a while.
