Great depth gauge. Easy to read display. Fast shipping

I do beverage can seamer setup and wanted to check my countersink depth on aluminum cans without having to go to the lab and wait for the results from the girls. We use a PC based Kuhnke digital and optical check system, which is great and accurate (when used properly) but crashes constantly. This was the only reasonably priced option I found, claiming 0-1 in. and off-center gauge position. The gauge is nice, but will NOT work as delivered. With supplied needle tip it cannot be zeroed when mounted on included fixture, the screw in gauge holder is too short. I made a 3/4 in spacer for the adapter to screw into and Tig welded it to the offset hole on the included fixture. Now it can read from true flat to csink depth correctly. Wish it was available in .0001 res. like the lab uses, but gets me within spec. Excellent price and quality, comes with extensions and different tips to measure depth of 6 inches, extra battery and plastic box. At probably 1/10th the price for the one the lab uses.

I purchased this item because it is the same gauge that the School of the American Rifle uses to measure AR-15 firing pin protrusion, and it works GREAT! AR-15 firing pin protrusion should measure between .0028 and .0036, make sure you take out the ejector and extractor first. This kit can also be used for many other measurements. I'm building a jig to use the gauge to check for ejector rod straightness on revolvers. It can also be used to measure run-out on your table saw blade, just make sure you have the gauge firmly seated on the saw table. Over-all I'm very pleased with this purchase and can highly recommend this to others. Thank you.

Came with a couple of extra smaller tips, they could come in handy. And one did, I had to modify one of the smaller tips to measure a cut I made in my mill. The cut was only 4.5mm deep, and 5mm wide, so with the boring head in the way, I had to modify a tip. But it worked perfectly for that measurement. And no, I didn't want to move the cylinder I was machining out from under the boring head to measure it, because even with a DRO, I didn't want to take the change of it not going exactly back in place if I had to do more cutting.

Others have written that their battery was dead upon arrival, having to install the second battery supplied. Apparently the folks at IGaging have read the comments and made the necessary changes. When I received mine both batteries were separate from the indicator so that there was no possible way for them to discharge while in storage and transit. I HATE using and reading regular depth gauges and usually would use a digital caliper to take a quick measurement of the rod instead of reading the instrument. With this tool I can take measurements in a fraction of the time it took me previously. The unit also has a HOLD button that allows for the reading to remain static (unchanged) until the next reading is made. The price is MUCH lower than the other competitors as well. A MUST HAVE!

the depth gauge is well built -- only thing to improve the gauge would be to have it backlit to make the face easier to read from any angle -- use it to measure bearing saddle depths on differentials, so far works really well.
